that Floridians voted for Charlie Crist for governor. It is times like these when I wish Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties would just secede from the rest of the state.

Most of North, Central and Southwestern Florida were able to vote for Bill Nelson over Katherine Harris (thank god), but they just couldn't manage to vote for Jim Davis over Charlie Crist.

4. And I'm unhappy in Alaska, too...
As Democrat Diane Benson went down to defeat to that unworthy asshole Don Young, and Republican Sarah Palin was elected governor over Tony Knowles.

Oh, well, there's always 2008 when Ted Stevens may be dead and maybe FINALLY Alaskans will wake up to the fact that Don Young is an idiot. One can always dream.

I'll withhold judgment on Sarah until I see how she's going to act. At least I know from talking to her yesterday that she voted for Diane.

7. We were talking to Sarah briefly yesterday
as we were all buying cappucinos in the gas station at the corner where we were campaigning. Her people were across the street from the Benson people with their signs. She was very smiley and happy, and said that she thought Diane did GREAT against Don in the brief televised debate the night before. While she didn't come out and actually say that she voted for her, from her comments it was pretty obvious who she favored. I also know that right after the primaries in August, Sarah's people approached Diane's people and said that they would support Diane if Diane would support Sarah. Of course, Diane passed on that, but I saw many, many people wearing both Sarah and Diane campaign buttons.

Sarah Palin made her reputation here by defying the old corrupt Republican establishment in the state. While she is quite socially conservative in this generally libertarian state, she does seem, at least, to be ethical, which Don isn't, so my guess is she chose to vote for the more honest (and female) candidate.

The gubernatorial election was weird here. Many old-line Republicans crossed over to Tony Knowles because he is pro-development, and I think some Democrats who felt that Tony was maybe too close to the oil companies, voted for Sarah. Plus we had a very viable Independent candidate who probably siphoned votes off both sides.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it all shakes out. Sarah made campaign promises to work with ALL Alaskans, so we'll see.

Nationally, I couldn't be happier; it's just a little bittersweet here.

10. I'm very suspicious of a Florida result in favour of the neocons.
* is plausibly claimed to be the most unpopular person in the US, yet the State in which his brother Jeb is a Governor, returns Republican candidates? Didn't he have to hide from an angry Floridian mob earleir last week?

12. In this case, I really believe Crist won
Because polls indicated throughout the campaign that he either had a huge lead or a smaller lead, depending on the poll.

The bottom line is he outspent Davis by a margin of 4 to 1. The $52 million he spent during his campaign went down as a record in Florida politics. During the election, he became the nation's most heavily advertised political candidate on TV.

Although he is against gay marriage and adoption, it has long been rumored that he is a closet homosexual, so I can't wait until they catch him in the closet with another man.
