Is three line companies plus supporting units, something on the order of seven hundred to a thousand men. The statement is a reasonable one. Formerly, between a fifth and a quarter of men wounded were killed, on average, but now, advances in medical care, and some peculiarities of the battlefield facilitating quick medical care, have reduced this proportion to more on the order of a tenth of injuries resulting in death. Thus, a reported one hundred fatalities in a month is rule of thumb warrant for assuming a number close to a thousand suffered some wound, and that about a hundred of them suffered grievous injury that would have been mortal in Viet Nam or World War Two.
