I don't know if I'd go that far. Right-wingers have been saying that liberalism's dead for ten years now, and here we are. More like "the age of 'Democrats are traitors' and 'either with us or against us'" is over.

The GOP of 30 years ago is not the GOP that lost big yesterday. The GOP was once a balanced party, with liberals like former MI Gov Milliken, Gerald Ford, Mark Hatfield, GHW Bush (before he ran as RR's VP). Bob Dole was a moderate, Nixon fell somewhere between moderate and conservative, and Goldwater was the most conservative guy in the party. There was no room for idiots like Delay or Santorum in that GOP.
