Why not President Pelosi?
Once we've purged the House and Senate of corrupt Republicans (which would be most of them), there's really nothing to stop us from impeaching and convicting Bush and Cheney. Pelosi will be next in line for the Presidency in that event. I think she'd do a fine job.

1. Well, we will get to see her in action soon
If nomination was today I would go for Pelosi over Hillary.

2. In spite of what Speaker-elect. Pelosi says
In spite of what Speaker-elect Pelosi says about impeachment being off the table, that is a realistic possibility.

I am certain that investigations into the manipulation of pre-war intelligence will reveal that no one in the regime "knew" that Saddam had any kind of bio-chemical arsenal and that the intelligence gave them no reason draw hard conclusions. They will further show that Doug Feith was editing reports in the OSP to make them appear less ambiguous than they were and that Dick Cheney and Scooter Libby were strong-arming analysts in Langley.

When that comes out, the public will clamor for Bush's and Cheney's scalps to be nailed to the Washington Monument.

3. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that take a two-thirds majority?
There's no prospect whatsoever of that many Republicans turning on Bush, I think, pretty much whatever evidence comes up.

4. Unless the evidence presented was so undebatable and
unrefutable. If that were the case, and there is clear proof through future hearings that the President not only lied us into Iraq, but has done a number of other things to harm our security, then the American people would united in an effort to get a conviction. The evidence has to be there for it to happen. And from what I've heard, Dick Cheney's been spending the last several weeks trying to destroy it.

7. That is exactly what I am assuming
The Democrats would need at least 16 Senate Republicans (assuming no Democratic defections) to oust the regime.

That's fine with me. While the standard for impeachment is (I believe) clear and convincing, the fact that so many Republicans need to get on board will make it closer to the criminal trial standard beyond a reasonable doubt. It would be so obvious that these creeps are guilty that any partisan who votes to acquit who lose his credibility and the next election.

I think this can be done to that standard.

10. No, I think the standard you'd need is "beyond unreasonable doubt".
The Republicans make a big thing out of party loyalty. I think the odds of sufficient evidence to convince them to break ranks existing, let alone being discovered, are very slim indeed.

8. Once the oversight investigations start, and the subpoenas are served,
and one by one the underlings find that they're compelled to testify, there won't be any choice BUT to impeach. By this time next year, the public will demand it.

6. Here's another scenario:
1. Junior goes hunting with Uncle Dick.
2. Darth Cheney accidentally, but fatally, shoots Bunnypants in the face.
3. Crashcart's heart (assuming there is one in there) "takes him home" from the shock.

Voila, President Pelosi!

11. I think the 25th amendment would make that unlikely
Section 2.
Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.

Scenario A

Cheney and Bush imbroiled in impeachment hearings.

Cheney resigns for health reasons

Congress approves modern day Gerald Ford picked by Bush, but who is still a Republican.

The Senate convicts President Bush and Ex-Vice President Cheney for treason.

President McCain uses the 25th amendment to appoint yet another Republican.

Democrats control congress but are denied the Whitehouse.
