Hello DU newbies! I've seen some amazingly funny and observant

comments by posters with very low post counts over the last few weeks.

Here at DU, we try to welcome newbies when they make comments in threads, however our traffic has been really busy and I'm afraid we haven't been doing this very effectively for, at least, over the last two to four weeks.

And, unfortunately, many times disruptors will sign up just to post 7 or 8 inflammatory statements, which can result in some of us thinking a low post count equals a troll.

However, I am seeing these brillantly perceptive and witty posts from low count posters and, I'm guessing, you are here because of this latest election as well as frustration with the direction our country's been heading.

If you've been here a day or just a couple of weeks, maybe a couple of months, and you haven't had the official DU welcome, please check in.

I'd love to hear what brought you here. I have plenty of :hi: icons to go around and I'm not the only one.

Please post, and let us give you a proper welcome.

BleedingHeartPatriot - I like your name too! I used to "debate" with some of my fellow RNs on a nursing board and I was referred to as a "bleeding heart liberal" by some freep nutjob who thought it was some horrible insult. After that I adopted it as a screen name.

I do have two questions though:

There are two ways to post a picture:

One, right click on the picture, click properties, copy the URL address and post that link on your post. The only disadvantage is, if the original website pulls the picture, it'll be gone from your post.

Two, create an online photo saving account (I recommend Photobucket.com), save the picture there, using the above steps, and then post here at DU. That way, the picture is in your post for posterity. :-)

Photobucket.com is a free host site.

IF the pic is already online, right click on the pic, scroll down to "properties", click on that and a screen will pop up where you will see the "url" Highlight the url, copy it.... then come here to DU, go to where you wish to post the pic, right click and click on "paste" and the url to the pic will be pasted on the page and the pic will show up after you submit your post.

If you go to photobucket.com to host the pic, you will see a url on their site. It will be underneath the pic you upload. Just copy and paste that url here. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

First, it needs to be online somewhere. (Preferably not at geocities or another of the make-your-own-homepage sites because a lot of them won't allow hotlinking from another site snd you just get a box like this: )

If it's on your computer, you can upload it to an image hosting site like photobucket.com

Then go to where it is and right click on the picture and select "copy image location"

Then come here and inside your post, right click and select paste.

You should have something that starts with http:// and ends with .jpg or .gif

Click on preview to see if it's showing right. If so, post away!

Just moved to the red corner of North Carolina recently (from the blue blue university city of Gainesville Florida. Couldn't vote for Heath Schuler up here, but I sure could put a poster in the window of my new business.

I joined DU 'cause I needed a mental and emotional support group as I was in the last several months getting more in depth info about the BFEE's total screwing of America. It's seemed rather lonely for progressives in this very conservative corner of the state. A few nice exceptions.

Two things I really love about DU - the spirit of fighting for what's right and the sheer volume of timely information. I still have, even after this wonderful election, serious fears about where * and company will take this country, and DU has helped me feel both better prepared/informed for the future and fell like I am not isolated.

72. Hi! I guess Im one of those low post count newbies.....

I actually found this site with Daily Kos and half a dozen others before the 2004 election. I come here everday to get my news fix. I just never bothered to register and post before because I really didnt think I had that much to say.

But, Ive been awake since 6am yesterday. I got up early to be at my polling place when it opened so I could vote before the rush of the day caught up with me.

Lol, sometime after I had got done calling people for MoveOn, when the polls started closing I came back here and was watching the election updates and just trying not to go insane. And I had a dozen windows open, and was popping back and forth between lots of results and tracking races and running numbers,and making myself crazy. Then those crazy kooks at MoveOn hit us up with another email pointing out that we could still be making calls to win seats in Alaska...LOL. So a couple hours later I was back here and dying inside from the suspense. And instead of just looking at the news updates from the main page, I found myself in the comments pages and then here reading all the wonderful amazing stories from the DUers. Like the guy who posted about how he voted 14 times. Hehehe. He was a volunteer to drive people to the polls, and he actually voted once, and took 13 people to their polling places who wouldnt have been able to vote otherwise. And everyone of those people were so grateful, and he wrote about how honored he felt to help them. He had to pick his daughter up after school so she went with him to take one lady to vote, and when his daughter asked the women, who had trouble walking if she needed help the woman smiled down at his daughter and said Honey, you and your daddy are helping take back this country. And I couldnt really read much after that because my vision was blurry and THAT was when I realized I had been crying for the last two hours or more...LOL. I hadnt even realized it till I hit that story and that part of the story but thats when I knew I had been crying as I read all these amazing post from everyone here will all the hope, and faith, and pride and hard work, and just wanting, more than anything in the whole world for us to win this election and save our country. 6 years of frustration and anger just being washed away from all these amazing stories........see, you all are making me tear up again, MAN, I swear....Lol.

I wish I could post a link to that story, but good luck now trying to find it among these thousands of post. <smile>

And then, then, then......the Yellowstone vote results in Montana suddenly dropped to zero. They had been showing us with 18 thousand and some votes versus 16 thousand and some for the Repubs. People had been taking screenshots, and there was a screenshot showing those results on one of the post I had bookmarked, and LOL, suddenly we were off.

Everyone freaking out about the change, and the fact that a few of the results had been zeroed out on the official sos website. And everyone was scrambling trying to find out what was going on, and trying to track numbers and I had a screenshot post on one window showing the final results of Beaverhead (which had reported 100% precincts reporting then dropped to 0 the same time Yellowstone had)and one of the last Yellowstone results, and everyone was wanting to know what the numbers had been, and what the population and registered voter numbers were for the counties showing zero, and I had ALL that info so I tried to post it, and thats when I found out you have to have a few post before you can start a new thread :-) All in all a good feature Im sure, but at 4 am last night during a time when it looked like there was some kind of vote tampering going on I dont think I have dispised any rule more in my entire life. LOL

So I registered, and started posting, and praying that I didnt have to have something like 1,000 post or anything like that in order to start a thread. I thought if I did (I dont know why, but 1,000 seemed like a reasonable number at the time) I had to post a comment every two or three seconds in order to hit that number in time LOL. Ohhh......looking back I can just say good times, especially when I found out that number was , ummm, well quite a bit lower then 1,000 to let me start a thread. If you search any of the post from really early this morning about Yellowstone or "WTH just happened in Montana" and stuff like that you can find my very first few post begging people with more post totals to please start a thread and post these links...<chuckle>. And so then the official word came in that there was a problem with the optical scanner tabulator reseting itself and that all the votes it had counted to that point had to be redone so that automatically triggered a recount for the whole county. And we calmed down, and we watched and waited, and I did post the Beaverhead totals and then the only county still out was Meagherhead (because it has one precinct and the election official had gone home early because there are only 900 registered voters or so, and they had all voted early in the day. So someone had to go wake him up and tell him to finish counting the ballots or something equally stupid, at least thats the story some of us got this morning.) But, they did have under 1,000 registered voters and Tester was up by 1700 votes, so, WE called the race for Tester about 12 hours before the news stations did. LOL

So anyway, I know that a novel isnt what you had in mind for introducing yourself, but now that I have started posting finally I just cant seem to make myself shut-up! ;-)

Its great to be here! I would have died last night waiting if I hadnt had all you wonderful people to read inspirational stories and post, and freak out with, and finally, finally, finally just utterly rejoice with!

I have had numerous greetings from fellow DU'ers, and can say it is always much appreciated.

Found my way here after linking from "Crooks and Liars", where I was researching a source. As a contributor to an international "Current Events" blog, encounters with Freeper type a-holes were becoming more numerous as the election drew near. Needing to validate my points, and seeing the intelligence and thought behind so many posts At DU, it became clear that I had found a new home.

My passion grew as I allowed the anger to surface. For much too long, the disenfranchisement from the horrendous 'elected' gov't kept me from seeking political discourse. It was too painful. However, allowing arrogant, idiots to continue to disparage any opinion that disagreed with their shallow viewpoints, was not an option.

Discovering that suppressing my bitterness (depression, anger, etc.) was a common ailment, and that one could give voice to these emotions here without ridicule, a door opened to emotional healing. Reading of the many efforts to combat BushCo, et al., by caring, passionate people here at DU, ripped the scab of silence from my wounds.

And for that, THANK YOU!

It is a great election victory for us, and for all of those in the world that do not subscribe to a PNAC 'vision'. This site provides an INVALUABLE forum... touching lives directly -- and indirectly. Everyone here deserves to be very proud of their contribution... initiating a real change to how we govern ourselves.

Not new at all, just a return after my nic expired. I had to take a break back in 2004 after the Ohio challenge. Folks may or may not remember me, but my nic was "Chili," I was heavy into the election fraud data mining stuff, had that "thankyoupatriot.com" site, and participated in the Cuyahoga County recount.
