I think we should demand an apology for all the hateful things
Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 04:54 PM by SoCalDem
our president has been saying about democrats for the last month while he used taxpayer money on his month-long "fundraiser"

This is a practice that I would like to see STOPPED (regardless of the party).

A president, once elected becomes president of ALL the people.

It's very unseemly and downright nasty for him/her to use TAXPAYER money to make unnecessary trips around the counrty JUST to demonize the candidates of the opposition party.

If we are a 50-50 nation, it's vital that once president, he/she must start acting like it.

I know that they are the titular head of their "party", BUT during campaigns they should be expected to still be president of ALL of us ..FIRST.

Every drop of fuel and every cost to the "receiving communites" should be reimbursed to the treasury...FULLY.

There is the "bully pulpit" meme, but a pulpit is one thing, and burning through millions of dollars (50% supplied by the rest of us) is another.

1. AMEN!
I am sick to death of the hateful rhetoric we've had to hear for five years now. I consider this election to be partly a triumph against that stuff. It's gotta stop. Maybe this election's the first step.

2. even if he apologized, he wouldn't really mean it. I think a cell in the Hague
is much better. :-)

3. Oh now that we have congrees they will be demanding
that we act all bipartisan and friendly while they continue to claim that we eat babies and sleep with OBL. Half of our party will join into the chorus demanding (suddenly) fairness and evenhandedness in all things political. The fun has indeed just begun.

4. Thank you!
To have our pResident saying things like "If the Democrats win, the terrorists have won" is simply an outrage to civil political discourse.

And he pretends to be reaching across the aisle, now, at this late date -- but gives away the game by referring to us as the "Democrat party".

Yes, if he apologized it would be insincere. But we should demand it anyway.

5. First thing: Pelosi publicly correct Bush
Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 05:04 PM by kenny blankenship
It's the DEMOCRATIC Party, Mr. President. Not "Democrat" Party. After 6 years in national politics you ought to be able to pronounce it correctly and you also ought to have the basic courtesy to do so.

7. Amen to that.. They have gotten away with that for FAR too long.
She need to say it, and so do the rest..

Would she like being called "Nan"?

This was a caculated ploy dreamed up by Rove & Gingrich..a fingernail-on-chalkboard type thing..and since it ONLY bothers us, whenever WE complained about it, they could (and did) just say.."oopsie..aren't you thinkskined"

It's a slur..and we should not accept it any more

6. Excellent!
He needs a reminder that a U.S. president represents all the people, not just his own party. This petulant, vindictive man has been on a perpetual campaign, spouting his propaganda to rigged audience for the past 6 years with our tax dollars!

No more campaigning! No more squandering our tax dollars to spew propaganda & outright lies.

8. I posted this same thing last night.
The Republican approach to democracy is "Say anything to win; count on Dems to make nice later"

In other words, they play politics like there's no accountability--like the words used on the campaign trail don't matter. Maybe their mindset is like a football players. I may tackle you on the field, but if I run into you at the grocery store I wouldn't. But that's bullshit. Political campaigns are not a game--it's how the nation conducts its business in a republic. Your words matter and we should hold Bush accountable for what he says.

I demand a fucking apology from this president. He said I didn't give a shit about whether terrorists are planning to attack America. He said that I don't want the FBI to intercept phone calls from al-Qaeda. That's a damned lie. Say it to my face, bitch, not to one of your handpicked won't-ask-you-tough-questions crowd while hiding behind Karl Rove's apron. It's time to hold the president accountable for the words he says. He's not a child--tho he plays one on TV. We'll have a grown up dialog when the president manages to start acting like a grown up.

I'm a pragmatic person. I think we should meet the president half way and discuss how we can all work together. We have troops committed overseas, we have criminal organizations gaining strength overseas from the way our occupation of Iraq is progressing, and we have a zillion problems at home that have gone completely unaddressed by a do-nothing congress. Republicans can play "just wait till Oh-Eight" if they want to; I think the Democrats need to start governing now and that means working with the sitting president.

But before we can work him, he needs to atone for being an irresponsible and divisive shithead over the past campaign. He's lied about us, about our agenda. Democrats deserve an apology. I think we should demand one.

14. Boy, I couldn't agree more
And yes, regardless of party. I don't want Dem presidents spending taxpayer money on campaign trips either. In fact, I personally don't think sitting presidents should campaign at all -- for anyone.

15. Yep
Pelosi and Reid must demand it immediately.

Especially the nasty comments constantly made by the likes of Cheney that "everyone will die if you vote democratic".
