I don't understand why DUers go to Free Republic
or why people quote them here.

You know what you're going to find ahead of time: asinine, angry, senseless remarks.

Why bother with them?

Yep...as someone who posts F.R. content on DU, I often do it for comic relief.

I tend to not shield myself from things that I might disagree with or find offensive. Knowledge really IS power, and there is value in knowing how those folks think. For everyone else, it's why God made "Hide Thread" and "Ignore User."

15. Because...
Because sometimes preaching to the choir is less effective than open and passionate debate. And every now and then, believe it or not, there is a post on FR worth reading and discussing.

That said, I have read through the Free Republic site, and much of it smacks me as inane and idiotic. There are voices of reason there, but they are drowned out by the chorus of "Dems want to end this nation, only Jesus can save us, homosexual agenda, blah blah blah."

And hey, if Anne Frank could still believe in the goodness of mankind, who are we to charge that not a single Freeper has something to say worth hearing?

(Wow. I SO want extra karma points for posting this. I almost convinced myself I was sincere. Almost. No. Wait. I mean it. I think.)

Where else can you find such comic relief? Also, in order to defeat an enemy you must first know him. Which is pretty easy in this instance. Really, I'm serise!

29. it's funny AND informative!
not only are they series morans, but it's even funnier when they accuse lefties and/or Muslims/Mexicans/Gays of the very traits they have (such as destroying America, etc.). Actually, it would be funnier if perhaps it didn't bother me so much, but you know what I mean.

I also think it's good to know what their arguments are, if for no other reason that it's easier to shoot holes in their "logic" if you're expecting it.

I seldom go there myself - there's not much need to see 800 copies of "HITLERY SUKCS!", but sometimes do when something big happens or when someone points out a particularly funny post.

33. Why? Because Schadenfreude Is Part of Being Human
Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 06:14 PM by VogonGlory
Why are some DUers going over to visit DU to read the wails of lamentation and listen to the gnashing of teeth and rending of garments? Because we have bullied and afflicted by Freepers for over a decade, and because indulging in some Schadenfreude is part of human nature. Indulging in Schadenfreude may not be the highest part of human nature but, oh Boy, is it fun right now!
