California elects Democrat Deborah Bowen for Sec of State!
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/11/08/BAGAQM8K613.DTL&type=politics

"Debra Bowen, a Democratic state senator from Southern California, won her battle with appointed GOP incumbent Bruce McPherson in a hard-fought race for California secretary of state.

With all precincts reporting, Bowen had 48.5 percent of the vote, with 44.7 percent going to McPherson."

This is a vital victory for us. The GOP cannot attempt to steal California's 55 electoral votes now.

3. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful...Debra was OUR candidate up here in
Siskiyou County were we didn't have a lot of well contested races to get excited about(GOP incumbent won 66-33). I proudly wore her button all season.

5. Hooray for Debra!
And all the other Dem candidates who won in California! We only have to put up with Arnie as governor (who has learned his lesson after his whuppin' last year on conservative propositions) and a Repub insurance commissioner.

I was very nervous because when I went to bed at 12:00 ALL of the Dems were losing. I woke up this a.m. to wonderful news.

6. That's great news. It wasn't looking good for her at first.
I wonder how long it's going to take for Arnold to try to get rid of her? I hope she can stick it to him.

7. Especially since we still have the Governator
I was sick with worry that he and McPherson would make California the next Ohio. With Debra in and McPherson out, California stays blue! :woohoo:

8. This is HUGHH11 indeed, but GOPpers can still try in counties
they just can't rig the whole game at their leisure, as in Florida 2000.

9. Arnold was one of only Republicans winning statewide office here
The other was for state insurance commissioner: Republican Steve Poizner defeated Democrat Cruz Bustamante, the outgoing Lt. Governor.

John Garamendi is the new Lt. Governor, defeating Tom McClintock.

Bill Lockyer, the outgoing Attorney General, is now state treasurer.

John Chiag was elected controller.

And finally, a blast from the past: Former Governor Jerry Brown is now the state Attorney General.
