1. That is an awesome question.
We just took a huge hit yesterday. It was a major step backwards for us. Will our fellow democrats help us get our equal rights now?

2. Isn't the sound of silence positively deafening?
I'm waiting for somebody to tell me why this still isn't the perfect time. It's one day after a massive win, not two weeks before any election, anywhere...

Still waiting.

Waiting some more.

Hmmm...

Sounds to me, BTFS, like there's no reason at all. No reason at all.

4. No doubt
It never seems to be the "right" time to stand up against the bullies for gay rights. :-(

Particularly when those deemed "unworthy" by the Bible are seeking them.

7. damn
You're asking the wrong person...

I'm straight and I'm for taking "marriage" away from straight people.

We see eye to eye on hate crimes though.

5. I would support a fight to make domestic partnerships the national law
Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 07:11 PM by bushmeat
and allow states to determine marriage but rights have to be EXACTLY the same.

Even Bush said he supports domestic partnerships (during 04 campaign).

Starting a campaign for marriage is going to just balkanize everything even more.

The "Colored Only" drinking fountains of the 21st century. :eyes:

Why not just tell us we should stay in the back of the bus?

17. Is there a problem with the idea of "seperate but equal"?
It's always worked so well in the past.

9. If domestic partnership
is exactly the same as marriage but without the church blessing then I'd consider supporting it. I think it would catch on among straight people and then there would be no stigma attached.

But if DP is in any way different from marriage then it's going to be the codifying of 2nd class status.

I would be very, very skeptical before I accept any version of domestic partnership because separate is not equal, as our supreme court has already noted.

12. I'm not getting my hopes up
But our new Governor-elect has said in the past month that he will push for gay marriage in New York State.
He's a bit of a slippery character, but I know a whole lot of New Yorkers who intend to hold him to that promise.

21. Question about your views on domestic partnerships.
Like you said about the seperate drinking fountains thing with respect to domestic partnerships - would it still bother you if they were 1) legally identical to marriage and 2) not just for gay and lesbian couples - as in, just another form of marriage?
