Rumsfeld's resignation today was their Plan B ... if they lost control |
|
of both the House and the Senate, then Rumsfeld would step down, Bush would appoint his choice, Lieberman ... since the "election" still isn't fully decided, he has to bide his time, so he "nominates" placeholder Gates ... Gates will either step down (read: Harriet Miers) or fail.
Then, Bush will nominate Joe Lieberman, and he'll be able to put the following talking points on as pressure:
Dems are anti-Semitic (because Lieberman is a Jew) Dems are breaking their promise to work with Republicans Dems are sore losers
Republicans would appear to be "reaching across the aisle" because Lieberman is a "Dem" and they would love to appear as being "bi-partisan" ... but they will have nothing but gains if Lieberman steps down from his Senate seat ... since the Repuke Governor of Connecticut will appoint a Repuke to take his seat, and the "majority" that the Dems acquired (through hard work and a tight election) would be destroyed ...

1. Poppy Fired Cheney, in essence |
|
Poppy Fired Rumsfeld and appointed a paleocon.
Cheney is no longer president.
Poppy is now president with his son as the Dauphin.
The neo-con reign is over.

6. I, for one, welcome the paleocons |
|
to clean up Chimpy's neo con mess.
They are practical, ruthless and efficient, much like the mafia.
They are the polar opposits of the neocon dilletants who speak in terms of 'making their own reality'.
Given a choice between the two, I herald their arrival.

10. Lieberman would have to be nuts to take that poisoned cup. |
|
He has six more years in the Senate ahead of him, versus two years as Secretary of Defense under a lame duck president whom everyone hates and who is attempting to fight a war that everyone opposes.
