Notice he did not say Rumsfeld offered his resignation and he accepted.

He says he had a conversation and they agreed that he should go! Who did he have conversations with? Rumsfeld or someone else, that is not clear.

Bush threw him overboard in order to look like a "Uniter, not a Divider". Bush had Rummy's ass ready to heave if the election looked bad. Loyalty only goes so far.

And I actually do think Bush fired him. Rummy did NOT resign. I'd put money on that (if I had any).
