Tricky question don't ya think? I mean it would give Bush the opoprtunity to appoint another judge but no ass hole would get through like Alito. Bush would have to truly pick a more centrist judge. Of course appointments can always be disappointing see Bush sr's appointment of David Souter. So it is a risky business. Any way something to think about.

Democrats control the chairmanships..Pelosi is Speaker, Harry Reid is Majority Leader, and Bush can no longer continue to abuse his power! The Republican Majority had no interest in balancing the budget, holding the executive branch accountable, or in reaching out to Democrats to prevent terrorism. They were only interested in destroying our two party system, avoiding any responsibility for failing to stop 9/11, and ultimately dismantling our Social Security system...thank God we stopped them before that happened!

I think Democrats in the Senate and House can expand their majorities by encouraging Republicans, like Susan Collins and Chris Shays, to switch parties before the next election! IMO..letting such moderate Republicans keep their seniority by welcoming all who were politically endangered this year by Bush's campaigning is the key.
