Karma bites Freeper re vote audit trail
Since Virginia is one of those states that uses electronic voting machines with no paper trail, there isn't any way to do a real recount. All they can do is to add up the numbers again.

That's not going to help. The answer is to require some sort of verifiable paper trail. Here in MN, we use optical readers. The ballot I filled out will be available for a recount, if necessary.

This electronic voting with no audit trail is wrong.

1. Do you suppose the GOP will now join us in the call for real voting system reform?
If they do, we will have a unique opportunity to get this problem fixed, once and for all. I hope we don't blow it. Voting system fraud is the single greatest obstacle to the continuation of the grand experiment called American Democracy.

2. We tried to tell them!
They laughed at us ... called us sore losers and cry babies ... told us to get over it ...

We told them that someday, it would affect them, too. But they ignored us. They didn't care because they won and little things like transparent elections and honest vote counts meant nothing to them.

Now they - like us in 2000, 2002 and 2004 - are getting screwed over by electronic voting machines.

Payback's a bitch, huh?

4. Now is the time for a big bi-partisan bill to overhaul HAVA.
Now that Republicans have lost their majorities (fed and state level), they should have as much motivation to have fair elections as we do. Now is the time to get both sides to craft new legislation to assure that we have fraud-proof election systems. Obviously, VVPB's need to be part of this legislation. Neither side should have to wonder if they lost an election based on someone flipping bits in a computer program.
