The last race to be called. Virginia Senate. Incumbent George Allen, whose daddy was a Washington Redskins head coach (Redskins football is practically the second religion in Virginia), lost to Jim Webb, an ex-Republican who had said some shitty things in the past--wasn't exactly big on women in the military back in 1979--but admitted he had had a change of heart. Allen never really repudiated his racist past. I'd rather have a reformed sexist than a guy who isn't sorry he once had a Confederate flag and a noose hanging in his office.

One anti-Webb ad suggested that Webb was right for '06 -- 1806, and I thought, well, gee, then he's perfect for Virginia because most of the state seems to think that way with regard to wimmen, blacks, furriners, etc. I mean, in Alexandria, one road is named Jefferson Davis Highway. And that's NORTHERN Virginia.
