8. Well, the LAST time that happened, we actually got Nelson Rockefeller
Ford vacated the VP slot, to become President, and he nominated Nelson (who later died quite literally, in the saddle, in the arms of a very attractive young woman named Megan Marshak) to be an unelected VP.

Unfortunately, Nelson was a bit too 'northeast liberal' for the rest of the GOP, so Bob Dole replaced him when Ford ran for President in his own right (and lost to Carter).

3. Ha, I said the same thing today. I pictured McCain of the sweaty embrace getting the nod.
After all, the Senate is all but a done deal. What's one more Dem?

Puts him in the catbird seat on the one hand, on the other, it associates him with the many, many failures of Dumbya.

11. Why would anyone want to campaign on the Titanic?
If the GOP has even a very minor chance of winning in 08, they will have to nominate someone as seperated from Bush as possible.

14. It's a good possibility. James Baker will make the final decision on this.
My guess is that Baker will see that it could pay huge dividends and Cheney will get the Ax.

15. Every Senator would be pissed if he nominated someone with '08 presidential hopes
He'd probably just nominate some other Republican relic from times past. James Baker, maybe?

16. NO WAY -
the Republicans aren't stupid - they'll nominate someone from outside the Bush orbit so they stand a fighting chance. McCain, Romney, someone like those guys.
