Democrats need to start working on dumping William Jefferson (D-LA)
Because of Louisiana's system he will be in a runoff with Karen Carter, also a Democrat, in December. Democrats need to get their all-stars down to New Orleans so that we can show the country that unlike the GOP, we deal with our corruption problems.

1. Agreed!
I never liked how William Jefferson just "happened" to share Clinton's two first names. It has nothing to do with anything, but it made me cringe whenever his name came up.

Of course, what's a little frozen cash compared to Abramoff, Foley, and Delay?

2. you are correct
I hate to eat one of our own, but frankly he's a liability and should not be supported.

4. Damn tootin'
Dems have to show that integrity matters more than party loyalty. They have to show they are serious about cleaning up Washington, and if that means getting rid of one of their own, well, that's just too damn bad.

Just asking.

11. Oh yeah, it needs to be looked at but I think one will find that
having a 100k hanging around is not real unusual for a D.C. politician, but like you say, let's check it out. If he is dirty, he needs to be gone.

17. It was in his freakin' freezer...
If he wasn't so obviously guilty, I might be defending him, but this is beyond obvious.

No one will have confidence in our integrity if we keep a crooked crony around.

It's bad enough Alcee "Impeached Federal Judge" Hastings is going to be a committee chair, but this is absolutely wrong.

7. It should happen. He's in a runoff and the dynamics are such...
that he very well may lose to another Democrat.

I'm sorry but this loser Congressman's ass should be grass. I like most other Dems want a clean government, and someone whom is obviously so corrupt should be out without a doubt.

I can't believe people actually voted for this crook.

19. It was the aid that pleaded guilty and the 90k in the freezer
If the shoe was on the other foot - yeah, I'd say the Republican was likely crooked.

I don't think I'm being unfair.

22. Innocent until proven guilty is only true in a court of law
Hence I'm not suggesting that Bill Jefferson be sentenced to prison. I am suggesting however that he is guilty until proven innocent in a court of public opinion and thus he should be defeated for re-election.

27. I think Nancy Pelosi had the best idea with this
Edited on Thu Nov-09-06 01:05 PM by SouthernBelle82
Strip Mr. Jefferson of his committee seatings and than let the FBI investigate so it would be none of them involved and than let the people at home take care of him. That is the best plan I think. On edit I think though that if he is guilty let the people at home figure it out and the local authorities and than if he isn't guilty let him still stay but maybe not on the committee's.
