Ole Joe took offense when Matthews said he was partisan. He was shooting some hateful looks at Tweety. Too funny.

4. Yeah I saw that. Joe got his dander up pretty good and I thought
he might eventually tell Chris that his momma wore army boots.

5. They played it on Imus
(which I watched just because I wanted to hear Imus whimper and cry about all his candidates that lost) and it didn't seem like a big deal, but everyone on the show said that while it was occuring it really was an uncomfortable moment.

6. Funny thing is, I think Joe has become a better journalist than Matthews.
He's certainly slanted towards his view, but he does at times acknowledge the truth when it hits him. He seems to me to have really moved on from his former role as politician to his new role as journalist, and does seem to be taking the job seriously, not just using it as a pulpit. Not that I agree with him, or even like him, mind you. It's just that he's surprised me.

Matthews-- I can't even think of him as a journalist. He's more like a talk show host who would rather get people yelling at each other than try for any accuracy.

14. Yeah, that's when I started noticing him, too. He did seem to change
his attitude after that. I suspect that being from a hurricane region, he could see what was going on, and realized how many people needed a journalist more than another mouthpiece.

7. Am I nuts for liking and trusting Scarborough more than Tweety?

11. No.
Tweety has moved from irritating to insufferable, and his performance last night was just awful.

16. Oddly, so far you're in the majority on this thread.
I remember Scarborough from the dead intern days, and remember the outrage around here when he was hired by the media later. And early on, he was just as much a Repub PR head as we expected. It surprises me a great deal that I've come to see any positives in him, but it looks like I'm not alone in that.

13. Darn! I missed it, however....
I'll take Scarborough's straight forward partisanship over Matthews' pretend objectivity any day. Matthews looked like he'd had the wind knocked out of him by time the results started coming in. By Midnight, he looked like he was in shock. Imagine! All those years of pandering to the Rethug power base....wasted! Tweety was deeply in love with the Rethugs lock on power in Washington.

I thought Tweety was VERY uncomfortable with Olbermann. He warmed up slightly by the end of the night, but they never made a comfortable team, due to Tweety's stiffness. I think Scarborough and Olbermann would have made a much better team, since Scarborough has a sense of humor.

17. I totally agree.
Tweety is a closet partisan...I thought he was going to start crying when Santorum was giving his concession speech. Doubt we'd see such a display of sympathy for any Democrat going down to defeat. He was obviously depressed by the magnitude of the Republican losses. I think he expected some Democratic gains, but not to the extent that it played out.

Tweety definitely was stand-offish to KO. I think there are 2 factors...Keith has really taken on Bush in no-nonsense terms, so they have a real political difference in their outlooks. But the bigger issue is probably professional jealousy. KO is getting huge rating gains and he will be swinging a lot more influence with the new Washington reality...he's making Chris into the 2nd fiddle on the network and that has to bother Mathew's ego.

Loved when KO gave him the donuts...Chris seemed taken aback by that.

18. The donuts....
Yes, he mumbled thank you and plopped them on the table behind him. And how bizarre was that little speech he gave KO about Countdown?! "I find your commentaries...uh...BRACING." Matthews did compliment KO by comparing him favorably to Eric Severied and Edward R. Murrow, but seemed so tense and uncomfortable doing so.
