Debra Bowen an Important win for CA Sec. of State

I am so relieved. She beat the Bush-sucking whiner, Bruce McPherson. She will now tear these freaking voting machines apart literally and expose the entire con to the world.

15. Does anyone have the results of the Ohio Secretary of State election?
Also does Mr. Crist of Florida to name his secretary of State? If he does this appears another disaster waiting to happen.

3. That's the best news of all in the California results. I had barely even heard
of Debra Bowen, in fact I hadn't heard of her at all until McPherson mentioned her by name in one of his commercials. I'm extremely happy that she won - it makes me feel a lot better about voting here.

5. Her election is sigificant on sooo many levels.
Mc Pherson slithered in to office in a very slimy way.

6. Thanks for the thread
I've been wondering about that SoS race.

So glad to hear the Dems won it.

How did the Ohio SoS race go? Anyone know?

7. Arguably the most important race in the country. I'm still blinking my eyes
in disbelief that she actually won, because there was so much at stake for the Dark Lords in California, and they literally used tooth and talons to get red of our previous honest Sec of State. The vote for her must have been awesome, and, likely the huge absentee ballot vote--this huge voter rebellion against the machines--tipped the balance. I have no doubt at all that they TRIED to steal it.

There is a lot of backstory here. Suffice it to say that the Bushites are trying to turn California into a "red" state against the will of the people, and as some sort of bastion of Republican evil, after the rest of the country repudiated them. Our first Diebold election was the weird Recall that Schwarzenegger "won" (125 candidates on the ballot--making it easy to distribute votes against Schwarzenegger to all those other candidates). And what we've seen since is the Dieboldization of California, ostensibly the most progressive state in the nation, with the toughest regulations, a reputation that we do not merit, on many scores, but on our election system, it is laughable.

The man Debra Bowen ousted--who was appointed by Schwarzenegger--was a Diebold shill, as are too many of our county election officials (bought and paid for). Bowen has one hell of a job ahead of her--and we Californians really need to start organizing now to watch her back, as she tries to restore election integrity. They WILL play dirty (as they did with Kevin Shelley), and, at least up to this point, the state Democratic leadership has been collusive, corrupt or fearful on election system issues. One of the first things Howard Dean said today was that we have to repair our election system. Maybe that will help the progressive Dems in California to clean house in our own party. I have a lot of faith in Bowen. She is extremely intelligent and well-informed, and seems to have a spine of steel. But no public official can do her job without strong public backing. That's where we all come in.

We have a lot of citizen work to do. JOY OF THE DAY to us all on this stunning national victory, and especially for this very hopeful turn of events in California! And let's get on with it!

17. The foundation of the conversion of California was the Enron-engineered
faux energy crisis that precipitated the removal of Grey Davis, allowing Ah-nuld to waltz into Sacramento bringing McPherson slithering along. Keep the faith and keep vigilant. California is the prize in the electoral crown. They've been beaten back this time, but they'll return.

14. Yep. And the CA Teachers Assn fine members need to throw out
those who engineered the CTA endorsement of McPherson. This is serious. CTA is the progressive force out there, yet they endorsed McPherson, their sole Republican pick. Find out who was behind this and you can open up a whole can of worms. I don't have any inside information just simple logic. Nobody who knows anything about post 2000 politics and who is also a Democrat/progressive would ever endorse this man, no one. So who was behind it? Time to clean house and move forward with a trustworthy crew. California is very important for any number of reasons. The strongest political force out there needs to remain that way. Giving the elections division to a Republican would have doomed the positive agenda of CTA and the other progressives for ever.

16. What amazes me about Senator, soon-to-be Secretary of State, Bowen:
She not only served as an outstanding State Senator, authoring bills to prevent identity theft, to protect battered women, etc. -- she fought tirelessly for clean elections AT THE SAME TIME -- as though she already was our Secretary of State!

Without a doubt, the finest public servant California has.

19. This was my favorite win in California!
We waved her signs early and often yesterday morning! I was concerned about McPherson winnning because he somehow was labeled as a "moderate", but Debra pulled it out! The California Dem Party did a great job of getting the word out about her.

21. "Let's just trust the voting machines" - McPherson

Ha..

I hope Bowen goes to town on those machines. California is a technology leader, let's listen to the experts... they say DON'T trust the technology.
McPherson is either dumb, or poorly informed. No excuse for making such huge ill-informed decisions about our voting equipment.
