How do you extend a hand to those who've all but called our party a terrorist organization? |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 11:11 PM by Skip Intro
Just a question. I'm sure, if you exclude the divisive wingnuts on the right, that we all want the same things for America and humanity at large - peace and well being.
But how do we, now, as we should I guess, invite those victims of the viciousness of the right to join us? How do we put America back together?
just rambling thoughts, questions...

6. Personally, I wouldn't. |
|
However, if I were in the Congress or other position of power, I would be civil and just carry on with working on behalf of the American people.
I feel quite certain it won't be long after the new Congress starts that the Repukes will show that they have no intention of playing nice.

12. I've been wondering about that too. |
|
Since they were doing it right up to the day before the election and even on election day itself, I'm not at all sure I WANT to reach out to them. How many were actually "victims" of the viciousness of the right and how many are active perpetrators of it? I just don't know.

though they may be goose steppers (or was that dancing?) we have to make nice.
Our country is sick and tired of this screaming at each other bullshit. We'll lose in '08 if we fuck around right now.
It is called being nice and treating each other with respect. We used to do that once upon a time, I like politics too much to get pissed off at someone who disagrees with me. I want to have fun debating someone. I want to make America a better place, not just half of America, but all of America.

19. Quisling bipartisanship,what weak drivel... |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 11:26 PM by dos pelos
Bipartisanship with these folks is what got us into the mess we're in.Acquiesence in voting for The Military Commisions Act gives away the right to a jury trial, the right to appeal, the right to habeus corpus. Why make nice with that? One does not accomodate that. One vigorously resists that.To hell with bipartisanship.Several things URGENTLY need correction;1. The Military Commisions Act needs to be repealed,2.We need to get out of Iraq,3.The Democrat Party needs to be free of the quisling accomodation to big business status quo consensus interests that have so clearly led us to the trouble we as a country are in at the moment.Making nice and establishing a bipartisan consensus with a bunch of big business corporate jingoist fascists, who have in fact already removed part of the Bill of Rights from American life,by law, with the willing assist of big business quisling Democrats is counterproductive. We need a course correction, not an accomodation with these folks. One does not accomodate these people.

18. yep. I trust them not, but somebody's got to make the first move. |
|
Its who we are, as opposed to who they've been.
I dunno. Maybe the divisions are too great. But I can't help feeling that there's a certain percentage of the other side with deep beliefs that fit ours.
We're the party of inclusion. The party they've grasped onto is the party of exclusion, pointing fingers at this group and that group as if those groups are somehow less American. I can't help but think there's a certain part of that gang that got "swept up" in all the "he's the monster, she's the monster" bullshit that now are having second thoughts.
I dunno. Again, just rambling...

It is difficult not to want to stick it back to them. Amy Klobachar our first female U.S.Senator here in MN showed remarkable restraint and ran a very positive campaign. She won a landside victory. The GOP will choke on their own bile we don't need to play into their hand. Keep it positive and bring out the truth. It has taken longer than we would like but it seems to have worked.

23. First you go after the media and break up the monopolies |
|
The MSM and the right wing radio yahoos are STILL where they were three weeks ago. Nothing has changed except the possibility of some sort of accountability raining down on the Bushoids BUT if we have to depend on Jomentum and the MSM to get a Democratic agenda across, how likely do you think that is?
If the Dems have the guts, they have to remember all the extended votes, and all the hearings denied or investigations stifled or meetings forced to be held in basement storerooms and pay the GOPukes back in the same coin. They also have to remember that the MSM and the rest ignored what was going on or, like Novak, participated in it. Remember Valerie Plame? WMD's? Osama bin Forgotten? and all the rest of the crap that the Bushoids have perpetrated.
Extend a hand? Are you serious?

"moderate" they try to be, big money, and therefore big media, will always shill for the right wing. Dismantle them. Break up these enormous media conglomerates.

29. You lead with action, let them follow and want to extend their hand... |
|
Remember we are dealing with folks that like to think in terms of quaint sports analogies and love to be part of the "winning" team...
So to answer the question, take action. Make small moves that demonstrate cautious contemplation while incrementally building support. At some point, they will want to join in in a sad "me too" kind of way..... hence they extend their hand first and you retain a position of power and respect.
Of course if you want to look like a total loser... you walk straight up to your idealogical adversary and say something really intelligent like... "Gee why can't we just all get along"... and maybe throw in a round or two of Kumbaya.
