Man jailed for interrupting Fox News live shot
http://www.sfbg.com/entry.php?entry_id=2049&catid=4&volume_id=254&issue_id=261&volume_num=41&issue_num=06

Justin Barker saw an opportunity on Halloween to denounce Fox News but ended up in jail overnight for his effort. He was in the Castro just after 10:30 p.m. when he saw local Fox affiliate KTVU–Channel 2 reporter Amber Lee doing a live shot. He stepped behind her and yelled, "Fox News is bullshit, Fox News sucks," on live television before the broadcast cut away to some B-roll footage. Suddenly, Barker found himself in trouble.

"I go to walk away, and three policemen come up and knock me to my knees, and I get handcuffed," Barker, who's been charged with battery and resisting arrest, told the Guardian.

(Note: The Guardian posted a link to a YouTube video of the incident, and KTVU ordered YouTube to remove the video.)

2. Well, if he gets a good lawyer, and didn't resist arrest but was beaten
...then he's a potentially rich man.

3. What reason did the police even have for approaching the man?
Sounds like three policemen need to lose their jobs.

22. Yup, he has probably been "extraordinarily renditioned" off to some eastern block
country. Never to be heard from again. Doubt Fox News will eagerly investigate that story.

15. Isn't against the law to interfere with government media?

FoxNews being the official government news outlet, it would seem like a pretty serious offense to interfere with their operations.

17. You have the right to free speech
as long as you're not
Dumb enough to actually try it.

---------------------------------------------

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS
The Clash

This is a public service announcement
With guitar
Know your rights all three of them

Number 1
You have the right not to be killed
Murder is a crime!
Unless it was done by a
Policeman or aristocrat
Know your rights

And number 2
You have the right to food money
Providing of course you
Don't mind a little
Investigation, humiliation
And if you cross your fingers
Rehabilitation

Know your rights
These are your rights

Know these rights

Number 3
You have the right to free
Speech as long as you're not
Dumb enough to actually try it.

Know your rights
These are your rights
All three of em
It has been suggested
In some quarters that this is not enough!
Well..............................

Get off the streets
Get off the streets
Run
You dont have a home to go to
Smush

Finally then I will read you your rights

You have the right to remain silent
You are warned that anything you say
Can and will be taken down
And used as evidence against you

Listen to this
Run

18. This doesn't surprise me
The San Francisco police are famous for their brutality. Having three of them jump on this single guy is pretty typical (and then charging HIM for battery!).

21. The last bastion when cops have nothing on you
beat you up and charge you with resisting arrest.

Now before anyone says anything I have nothing against honest decent cops. But this does seem to be SOP.

23. Another thing - if the guy was drunk, cops pretty much feel they have total authority
Edited on Thu Nov-09-06 11:58 PM by file83
to violate you anyway they see fit. They just tell the judge that you were drunk, and you lose all your civil rights, although, not "officially". But for all practical purposes, that's the end result.

:hide:
Now do most cops support these criminal Republicans?
Hope that guy is an ACLU member. He may need them.

26. The behavior of the cops is, sadly, far from uncommon
cops routinely do this crap, and they just as routinely get away with it. The basic rule of thumb is: cops can (and will) do whatever they want.

By the way, using ridiculous BS charges is part of the standard procedure as well. It gives the cops "justification" (:eyes:), while intimidating the individual into taking a plea bargain (another facet of this is that the individual can't sue when this happens).
