Dems Need To Address This As A First Priority ..... IMPT
Edited on Thu Nov-09-06 12:20 AM by Blackhatjack
The way Democrats are portrayed to the American people colors their perception of who they are and how the populace will be affected by their efforts in Congress and the Executive Branch.

Getting rid of the 'Fairness Doctrine' and implementation of deregulation of Media Ownership Rules has resulted in a Republican Echo chamber that demonizes DEMS.

Well those media outlets use public air waves, which are licensed to them with the provisio that they serve the public interest -- not Ruppert Murdock's interest.

DEMS would be smart to immediately address the media consolidation problem upfront, make the massive holders of radio stations, newspapers and network/tv licenses divest their monopolistic holdings, and turn those over to competing interests in the community.

It would have a profound effect. And as part of the package, they need to insure that net neutrality is perserved and keep the major telecommunication companies from monopolizing the future of communication in this country.

There are so many needs to address, so many injuries inflicted over the last 6 years that cry out for immediate redress. However, if DEMs intend to be around to address all of these concerns they need to take on these issues in the first round so that the American people know we are fighting for them, not the profits of Corporations and lobbyists. Otherwise, DEMs will be demonized, mischaracterized and likely voted out of office in two years.

As an added bonus, I believe DEMs would see an immediate change in behavior of MSM personnel once they realize that their bottom line of profits will likely be affected by the legislation that is coming down the pipe. And if Bush refuses to sign that legislation, it gives every DEM a great campaign issue to raise in the 2008 Presidential Election.

We cannot wait, it is time to take down the corporate and Republican controlled MSM, and engender their reclaiming their role as a legitimate 4th Estate --performing their duty for the benefit of the people, not just to enhance their corporate profits and preservation of Republican reps that they pay handsomely to protect their interests at the expense of the American people.
