A Freep with Honor (CONGRATS TO DEMS, BOOS TO GOP)
A number of posts have commented on the implosion over at the Free Republic so I thought I'd take a look and see how our brothers and sisters in Freeperland are dealing with the new direction our country is taking... lo and behold, I came across something quite extraordinary and thought I'd pass on this post in the spirit of hopefully kindling some comity between our two camps...

CONGRATS TO DEMS, BOOS TO GOP

In Little League they teach you how to lose.

You congratulate the winner and you walk off the field like a gentleman.

It's a good rule for life. You congratulate the winner and you walk off the field like a gentleman.

That's what we Republicans must do. We must recognize and congratulate the Democrat victory, and we must behave like gentlemen and ladies.

We weren't robbed, we weren't cheated, we were beaten. There were free and open elections across the country and, in the manner prescribed by our Founding Fathers, the nation has spoken. A new majority has come to Congress and a national tide has turned. This is not a day of mourning, it is a day of rejoicing. Every election day is.

Every election day is an optimistic day, a day of new beginnings and fresh starts, a day of potential milestones and revolutions. And it is not proper to second guess them or ridicule them or minimize them.

The Democrats won, it's that simple. They won because, as expressed at the ballot box, that's what the people want.

That was a very nice post and even though he goes on to reverse himself later and says that we didn't win... they lost... it was still a very nice post with a sportsmanlike spirit. If there were more Republicans like this, I probably wouldn't despise their Party or their ideas quite as much as I do... but alas, a leopard doesn't change it's spots all that often and the majority of Freepers are not like this one but there's hope this one seed can blossom... there's always hope.

1. Betcha he gets banned. Rimjob hates dissension.
Honor isn't allowed there, either. They break out in hives from it, I guess. :shrug:

4. I don't know much about their site...
I've only been there a few times. They post entire articles and sometimes they're the only site that has the archived copy. Other than that I haven't ventured over there. All I know about them is from what I read here and the impression I get from the trolls that scurry in from over the fence.

2. Thanks. Never thought I'd recommend a post about an FR thread
unless it was for sheer comic value. But people should read this. I suspect the poster has probably already been banned over there, sadly. They could use a couple of reasonable people there, heaven knows.

6. I'm not sure that's honor.
I think it may be the equivalent of a kid who got caught burning down the barn putting a text book down the back of her pants knowing she is gonna get her ass whooped.

8. sweet, but I would prefer more insight
into that last thought of "it's what the people want" and find out why they wanted it.

9. If you go to that same link ... and scroll down
... to post #8 ... you'll be amazed to read about all the magnificent achievements of the B**S regime. :sarcasm:

What planet are those people from??

It's far too long to paste here ... 13 seperate headings listing accomplishments we somehow missed. Here's a bit of it:

Here is the list. You threw this all away with your tempertantum yesterday "Real Conservatives". Hope you are happy with your accomplishment. HERE is a list of what Bush and the GOP have got done.

Abortion & Traditional Values

1. Banned Partial Birth Abortion — by far the most significant roll-back of abortion on demand since Roe v. Wade.
2. Reversed Clinton's move to strike Reagan's anti-abortion Mexico Policy.
3. By Executive Order (EO), reversed Clinton's policy of not requiring parental consent for abortions under the Medical Privacy Act.
4. By EO, prohibited federal funds for international family planning groups that provide abortions and related services.
5. Upheld the ban on abortions at military hospitals.
6. Made $33 million available for abstinence education programs in 2004.
7. Supports the Defense of Marriage Act — and a Constitutional amendment saying marriage is between one man and one woman.
8. Requires states to conduct criminal background checks on prospective foster and adoptive parents.
9. Requires districts to let students transfer out of dangerous schools.
10. Requires schools to have a zero-tolerance policy for classroom disruption (reintroducing discipline into classrooms).
11. Signed the Teacher Protection Act, which protects teachers from lawsuits related to student discipline.
12. Expanded the role of faith-based and community organizations in after-school programs....

<snip>

I especially enjoyed the last part, although he left out the part about warrent less wiretapping of American citizens, and that little bit about approving torture and relieving us of the burden of Habeas Corpus.

...9. Heeding the words of our own Declaration of Independence, the president laid out the non-negotiable demands of human dignity for all people everywhere. On January 29, 2002, he said, "No nation owns these aspirations, and no nation is exempt from them. We have no intention of imposing our culture. But America will always stand firm for the non-negotiable demands of human dignity." As stated by the President, they are a virtual manifesto of conservative principles:

* Equal Justice
* Freedom of Speech
* Limited Government Power
* Private Property Rights
* Religious Tolerance
* Respect for Women
* Rule of Law

10. Those points in #9 probably are 'conservative' values
They're definitely liberal values. In truth, they're American values. They just aren't Republican values...
