An alternate theory on Rumsfeld lie... |
|
Edited on Thu Nov-09-06 01:48 AM by tasteblind
Maybe Rumsfeld saw the subpoenas on the wall and decided to resign, but is letting Bush take the credit/blame for booting him.
That would explain why Bush said Rumsfeld would stay on...he probably thought he would.
But once Rumsfeld saw the extent of the power switch on Capitol Hill, and knew that DOD expenditures would be investigated thoroughly, he scampered away like the rest of the GOP, leaving Bush to his fate.
Makes a lot more sense than, "Win or lose, Bob Gates was going to be the nominee."
Edit: And everyone knows that Bush would say whatever Rumsfeld told him to say. We all know that Cheney and Rumsfeld run the show while Bush distracts the media.

3. The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced this is what actually happened. |
|
Bush never had the authority to fire Rumsfeld. Constitutional authority, yes, but Rumsfeld and Cheney were always in charge of him, not the other way around.

6. I don't believe for ONE second that this 'decision' was made |
|
until the wee hours of this morning, when * and company knew that their goose was cooked.
* HAS to start looking like he's doing something about Iraq (other than loading his crooked pal's pockets with money.) Getting rid of Rummy was an easy way to 'look' like he has a plan, without actually having one. I really think that someone in the White House woke up for ten seconds and realized that if the repukes don't start DOING something about Iraq, come January of 2007, the Dems WILL do something about it and get all the credit. That is the last thing the repukes want, with the Dems in control, and 2008 looming in front of them. They don't want another November, 2006. Too bad. We're going to give them one.
