Hello? Hello? Is this thing on?
I've been saying pretty much the same thing all day. It's been very hard to get anyone's attention.

Last night's vote was a repudiation of corruption and extremism. It wasn't a mandate, it was a "show us what you've got."

We WILL be judged on how much effort we put into fixing the problems facing the average citizen. It's about HEALTHCARE and MINIMUM WAGE and IRAQ. It's about rooting out the corruption in Congress--which, if you remember the poll results leading up to the election, has an approval rating barely in the double digits. Particularly the Republicans.

There are a lot of things the Dems need to do to fix the things the Republicans have fucked up. Americans WANT investigations, but not at the expense of taking care of the business of America. Healthcare for all Americans. Better educational opportunities. Real immigration reform. Job protection.

There are two sides to the Republican ideology--social and economic. A lot of people who don't support their social ideology support their "fiscal responsibility" meme. The problem is that their economic model doesn't work the way they say it does. "Voodoo economics" doesn't work. You can't give tax breaks to corporations and the richest Americans and expect it to stimulate the economy. Only giving money to people who will actually spend it will contribute to economic growth.

We need to deconstruct their economic model. That will pull some people away from the Republicans.

But MORE importantly, we need to counter their "family values" bullshit by fully exposing their hypocrisy--they cover up things that are against their so-called "family values" when it's convenient. We all know it.

If we dig deep and reveal all the dirt they're hiding--and we know they're hiding stuff. It's a given. Most people who scream the loudest about "morality" are trying to cover up some pretty damn awful things that are going on in their own heads.

It needs to be a two-prong attack. We need to disprove their economic model and reveal their hypocrisy. Doing these two things will break down a LOT of support for the Republican Party and open up an already vulnerable pResident to serious investigation and impeachment. Once we show the levels of corruption we KNOW exist, the public will demand it.

So let's stop poking at each other and start poking at the Republicans. It will be MUCH more satisfying in the end.

1. I agree 100% - we need to improve and punish at the same time.
If we only do one or the other, we will fail in the end. The standards must be set HIGH, unlike the Republicans for the last 12 years.

3. Future of the party
The 2008 election starts now. The dem party will be judged on their merits starting now. So the message and plan to implement must begin now or all of this is for nothing.

We need to disprove their economic model and reveal their hypocrisy.

I think we can do the latter by doing the former, and/or vice-versa.

On a related note: if you think about it, doesn't "trickle-down" sound awful to you? I mean, come on, trickle? Leaks trickle — so, like... the middle class is supposed to live off of the money that accidentally escapes the Capitol dome?

7. I still want impeachment hearings.
It doesn't have to take up the entire operation of the House for two years like with Monica, just one committee with subpoena power quietly investigating in the background. Then the rest of the House can focus on the real issues, and when the time comes, still hold * accountable.

8. It is my opinion that one of the main reasons they were thrown out in '94
Is because they did not do those very things when they held all the cards. Clinton handed them a Uiversal Health Care plan that did not contain government control as the right wing claimed but instead of confronting them they just decided to pass on it and voted against their President. The very next election the people booted them out on their ass. The main reason was failure to do their jobs....Have they learned a damn thing in the last decade? Well that remains to be seen but virtually every common person I have ever talked with wants Universal health Care. We are the only Westernized nation that doesn't have it. I guess we are right and the whole rest of the world is wrong.... I personally will vote against any Democrat I can if they don't at least offer up a Universal health care bill for Bush* to veto. The only reason we still have the system we do is because the huge money interests know they will lose their tit they have been sucking on forever. Universal health Care will save this country billions and the sooner we put it inot effect the healthier our nation will become. It is a sign of a piss poor nation that refuses to take care of it's citizens...
