Poll question: Impeach or Probe? |
|
I will have to admit that I was a bit disappointed to hear that impeachment was off the table. I believe the voters do want that, but I do agree that the message should be investigate instead of impeach.
Since there is a bit of debate of this subject, I thought a poll should be taken:
Also, a word about the poll - yes I thought of including, a few Treason related items, but decided to refrain :)

1. We control the bus now. Why be vindictive? Impeach is useless |
|
It makes us look like the hating clowns we just (narrowly) defeated.

3. I didn't vote. We shouldn't impeach. |
|
Having Bush in the Oval Office won us the midterm election. Continuing to have Bush in the Oval Office can win us the presidency in 2008.

7. I won't vote. Silly poll. we have the chance to do much good now |
|
Wasting our time impeaching Booshe instead of healing and fixing the mistakes he created. No, I'll have no part in any poll like this.

4. Advocating for/against impeachment is irresponsible until investigations have been held |

Once the subpoenas are issued, and all the dirty laundry is uncovered, the Congress and the people will be in a far better position to decide the fate of George the Lesser.

While it is a political function and process in many ways. It is the duty of the legislative branch of government to provide oversight and to impeach if that oversight provides evidence of wrongdoing. The problem we have faced is that Congress was not living up to their responsibilities, which I believe is why the American People Impeached and removed them from their offices on Tuesday. It is about the process and the rule of law.

8. There MUST be accountability for all crimes against our country. Otherwise, |
|
our country will have no respect in the world. There must be a FULL investigation of what exactly has gone on and why. It is not enough to "move forward" and "leave any unpleasantness behind." If this is glossed over, the invitation is out there for anyone in high office to pull this shit again.
If this is now going to be an honest government, then it needs to do the work of rooting out the corruption, exposing it, and serve up the justice to any who have commited crimes. We, The People, deserve no less.

9. Perhaps the Iraqi people should have a say in this |

After all, over 650,000 of their people are dead, countless more maimed and their country is in ruins all because of the direct actions of GWB.
The US is purportedy there to "spread democracy".
It is reasonable to suggest, therefore, that, if we really believe in true democracy, they should have some influence over the way this matter is handled. Granted, US domestic politics are an important consideration for US citizens. I just wonder if the people who have suffered most of all should be consulted.
Just saying...

There are more important priorities for a Democratic Congress than impeachment. Any move to impeach would be a waste of time and resources better spent in undoing some of the damage wrought by six years of Republican one-party rule. And any impeachment would be doomed to fail; conviction by the Senate requires a supermajority (2/3 in favour), which we DON'T HAVE. This is a very simple point that no-one who's part of the pack baying for blood, and the sooner the better, seems to understand.
