Dear Media: It was NOT just the war!! |
|
This morning, network talkers theme... "The People have spoken out against the War" and straight into the Rummy firing..
The war IS a big big big thing... but opposition to it cuts in two directions: The Hawks and neocons want to "go large" in there....
the rest of us want out asap (responsibly of course)
If we let the Media ride the theme they're framing now, we won't get coverage on habeas corpus, or the warrantless wiretapping, or fixing the voting apparatus, or the war profiteering, or ((natch) media reform.
Early on the agenda we need to get the media monopolies broken up, and the fairness doctrine reinstated. (With a little "truth in advertising" enforcement.)

1. There were many reasons. |
|
They've forgotten Katrina, but the people haven't. Bankruptcy. Gas gouging. Health care. Hypocrisy. Education and the environment.
There is an issue or two to bring everyone into our party.
They have only done what is good for the rich. Most of us aren't rich.

3. I agree, Bushco entire cabinet corruption, Delay, Abramoff, Katrina, Gas prices |
|
especially when George appears on TV stating he had gotten the intel mostly wrong on the lead up to bombing Iraq and the number from this fiasco has grown to 600,000+
And there the question of this war being a noble cause to die for?

8. Corruption Corruption Corruption |
|
It was #2 in every exit poll but the press still won't mention it because just like the war their lack of reporting on it would be highlighted if they did.

5. I know! Isn't it the most frustrating thing!!! |
|
I want to go out and collar a reporter and explain that the election was a REJECTION of conservative politics.
A rejection of extreme RW social agenda....a rejection of hate, scapegoating.
A rejection of the extreme secrecy of this administration....no daylight there.
A rejection of the dismantling of our Constitution, and the loss of our civil liberties.
A rejection of lack-of-oversight/accountability just because it's their party in power.
A rejection of a corporation-purchased Congress, and legislation that expands the profits of corporations at the expense of the consumers.
A rejection of the outsourcing of our middle class manufacturing jobs...the jobs that made America a rich country in the first place.
A rejection of politics of the rich....no one down here where I live is experiencing a "great economy." They live from paycheck to paycheck, with prices of everything up, but their benefits down.
It's not just the war, stupid!

6. I know that criminal investigations will get much |

of this muck cleaned up. But the Media needs to shine flashlights in on the crud getting pushed under the rug, and jammed into the corners.
We've seen (through the work done here, online) that public attention HAS to be focused very clearly to get any action. The hardest "cleanup on aisle 5" will be shaking the media monopolies apart. We know there will NEVER be mass coverage on that issue, but no other "clean up" would have as salutory an effect as that one.

10. Media, Like Republicans, Will Not Refer to Domestic Issues |
|
The National exit poll I heard of--(I think it was PEW Research, and reported by AP; I don't think it was an AP poll)--showed that the #1 issue was NOT Iraq, it was "Republican corruption." I have posted many times here, that people in the depressed-economy Midwest consider the terrible, for-the-rich-only economy to be the most important issue, according to polls, and now the never-ending tide of Republican scandals, corruption, corporate cronyism, lobbying and crime. The corporate media overstates Iraq because they think they can "handle" that; corruption and pro-business collusion, however, goes right to the heart of what Republicans are.

We're on the edge of an economic catastrophe because the dollar has become so weak thanks to such a huge trade deficit which in turn is because of our new service economy. The middle class is disappearing. Minimum wage has it's lowest buying power in 50 years. And yet, two days ago on CNN, three talking heads were talking about the economy and they managed to repeat the exact phrase, "the economy is good" at least 10 times between them in less than 3 minutes. LOL. As far as the big business is concerned the economy is doing just great.
So I wonder, did the people understand what a mess our economy is in despite the big business controlled news media's lies? I don't know.
