CNN and MSNBC Breaking: Tom Vilsack will run for White House in '08
Edited on Thu Nov-09-06 08:28 AM by Fighting Irish
DES MOINES, Iowa - Fresh off midterm elections, the race for the White House has already begun.

Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack is expected to officially launch his presidential campaign Thursday by filing documents with the Federal Election Commission. His decision comes after months of speculation he would run and two days after his fellow Democrats scored overwhelming victories in state and national elections.

Vilsack is the first Democrat to make a formal declaration for the presidency although a number of better known candidates are presumed to be running.

Meanwhile, CNN has a banner at top of their page:

Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack will run for the White House in 2008, a source close to the governor tells CNN. He is the first prominent Democrat to announce his candidacy.

1. Oh, goodie.
Another ultra-beige DLC specimen of complete and utter wussiness and corporatism to rain on my post-election parade.

There's no way he or any candidate who is affiliated with the DLC gets my vote. Never again.

6. Curious - maybe he thought he would get some press
By announcing this close after the election.

Either way, this guy is a dead end and probably won't go far considering he offers no real contrast to the G.O.P. I'm tired of that type of candidate as we were just beaten in Tennessee for that very reason.

7. Vile Sack? Oh boy. Can't Wait.
There's a fairly long list of alleged-Democrats that
I don't think I could ever vote for (especially now
that the "Just hold your nose and vote for the D!"
contract has been broken by the DLC).

Vile Sack is right near the top of that list.

9. too early to be picking the horses
for a race 2 years away

we went through this in 2002 - picking horses for a race 2 years away...
funny how none of those horses made it to the starting line in '04, and the ones that did weren't in the '02 pick list

17. The behind the scenes manuevering
starts the day after the last presidential race. This is just the public announcement. the presidential aspirants have all been hiring staff, raising money and building organizations for years prior to this stage. This is where the open kimono is supposed to entice the novices to say he looks good on TV let's work for him... We are at the perennial visibility portion of the program! The DLC'ers are determined their entrants will go first.

Vilsack:boring: But he opens the door for the other desperadoes to start fluffing their feathers for public display. The bigger guns will wait.

14. I wish him luck, but I won't caucus for him...
He's a nice enough guy, but he's a lukewarm candidate with a huge BLAH factor. Thoroughly unexciting, PLUS he's just not well known enough-although that's probably why he announced so early. He needs the recognition AND the money.

15. Well, he presents himself better than, say Evan BAYH, who
looks about as lifeless as a mannequin. I know nothing about VILSACK, but the few little clips I've seen, he's a good Dem. What's with all the bashing of GOOD DEMS?

19. I know a LOT about Vilsack ..
as he's been my governer for the last eight years. He's a very nice man (I've had the opportunity to meet him on three occasions)but he's a cold fish. He's competent and capable but hardly inspiring. He did a better than average job at getting Iowa back on track fiscally (no small feat after the prior administration) and he's handled the governership adequately but he isn't the type of dem who's going to rally people. There's not much about his personality that makes people say "YES! I BELIEVE IN HIM!" It's more like "He'll do."I think he'd be a good VP or upper cabinet member but the thought of him as president leaves me wanting-and that hardly constitutes a "bash".

too bad that all the good qualities you listed about him don't count for many people. Just extroverted personality cult-ism. But wait, *I* bashed Evan BAYH, didn't I. Uh-oh.

16. This Is Awesome, Simply Because It Makes the Iowa Caucuses Irrelevant
Everyone will expect him to win in a walk, so the first real contested event will be New Hampshire.

20. And, joy of joys, Gov. GoodHair here in TX refuses to pledge to serve all 4 yrs.
He won't promise to finish out his new term that he just 'won' with a whopping 39% of the vote. It seems he may want to run for national office. Not that he'll admit to that, just that Jesus "may have other plans" for him. (Yeah, like coming down and slapping Ricky so hard his hair actually moves.)

I screamed my head off in 2000, warning everyone I knew around the country to avoid junior like the proverbial plague. There were many Texans who did exactly the same thing, but we were drowned out by the hurricane of spin created by the TurdFormerlyKnownAsBlossom. We didn't have the networking online that we do, now, but the basic message has not changed one bit:

DON'T EVER, EVER VOTE FOR THIS TEXAS GOVERNOR FOR ANY NATIONAL OFFICE! HE IS AN EMPTY SUIT WITH FAUX FUNDIE VALUES HE WILL SHOVE DOWN YOUR THROATS!

**ahem** Sorry. Preachin' to the choir, I know, but I had to do that or I'd pop. And I feel soooooooo much better.
