Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry: Harkin
Appropriations: Byrd
Armed Services: Levin
Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs: Dodd
Budget: Conrad
Commerce, Science, and Transportation: Innouye
Energy and Natural Resources: Bingaman
Environment and Public Works: Boxer
Finance: Baucus
Foreign Relations: Biden
Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions: Kennedy
Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs: Lieberman
Judiciary: Leahy
Rules and Administration: Dodd
Small Business and Entrepreneurship: Kerry

Dodd is in two, so I do not know which one he would let go, but except for that, it will probably look like that.

3. Unfortunately, we will need him to keep the Senate leadership.

4. Forget Lieberman
There are lots of liberals who will be heading committees. I'm thrilled by that list.

5. This is one of the ones I prefer, with Kennedy at HELP and Leahy at Judiciary.

6. Kerry in Small Biz & Entrepreneurship seems a waste...
and I snigger to see Liberman's name on homeland security, seeing how Homeland Security is for cissy's ( at least that's what I hear Bob Gates reckoned when he was offered the post a few years ago.)

Seriously though, since Liberman's an independent now, does he still get to chair anything?

8. Where would you like to see Kerry?
And the answer to your Lieberman question is simple: Reid assured him that he would not lose his Seniority and he was the ranking member on this committee. Surely you're not suggesting that Independents should never chair committees if they caucus with the majority party.

12. No I'm not suggesting that.
I was was just curious how his renegade status would play out now that there's a power shift.

As for Kerry, I don't suppose I know, but I gather he's got a real concern for military issues. -- Peace

13. How about Kerry chairing the sub-comm on technology
You know, that one that wrote the law on 'net neutrality.'

Chairman of the Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Technology, Innovation, and Competitiveness for the 110th Congress will be John Kerry. Is that a better use of his talents? I wonder if being in charge of telecom and the media law might be more his style. Wonder what he will think of all these media parent companies who come before that committee looking for a hand-out or a dispensation from a law. That could be fun.

23. You also have to remember, Senators have more committee assignments,
bigger staffs, longer guaranteed stays in DC than do representatives.

7. Rules is a bigger post. Who's the second ranking Dem on Banking,
Housing, and Urban Affairs ? Dodd will probably want the Rules chair, very prestigious.

17. No. That would be the Majority leader. Rules sets the standard for
how much debate on an issue per party and other procedural matters, and this is done closely with the other party. Rules is one of the most desirable chairmanships because of it's parliamentary duties as well being one of the original committees formed and in the Senate, debate is far more formal and polite, well at least it now will be again.

22. Rules has oversight on a lot of things
Including election law in the US.

Any reforms that deal with voter registration, machines, etc. comes out of rules.

21. EEEK !! Good grief, didn't see that one. Go to number 3, because Ethics is
bigger than banking. Jack Reed or Charles Schumer are also viable candidates.

18. Won't Rockefeller's term be up on Intel?
Edited on Thu Nov-09-06 08:56 AM by TayTay
Those are rotating assignments to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. Rockefeller served as co-chair in the 109th (Weasel) Congress. He may not be on this Committee at all in the next Congress. The assignments will be drawn up later by Harry Reid and the Dem leadership.

This committee rotates membership every two years.

go here:

25. These will settle out
Kennedy will out-and-out chair Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions. That will be his main responsibility in the 110th Congress. He will dial back on other committees.
