I can't find stats on how women voted in 2006
Edited on Thu Nov-09-06 10:25 AM by blue2helix
I had developed a thesis (I'm sure a ton of other people did too) that the womens' vote was going to be a difference maker in 2006, but I have not been able to find any stats on the web.

Does anybody know where to find this info?

1. There was a forum on CSPAN this morning....
with pollsters and other analysts breaking down the results (it was fascinating info). Yes, women definitely went Democratic in a big way this time, but so did young voters (Better than 2-to-1) and Latino voters (70 percent). I'm sure it will re-air at some point today.

2. You won't get anything but guesses for a few weeks
because the process of finding out how who voted for whom is a lengthy and underfunded one.

3. CNN
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2006/

Choose Senate, House, Governor, etc

Then click on the state or district to see the race results.
At the bottom of the page is a breakdown ofthe exit polls, including gender.

4. There's a good graphic in the NY Times.....
It's from exit polling. It's interactive so I can't post it here. They show the overall total for women voting 56% for Democrats vs. 44% for Rethugs. Looks like we mostly have to thank African American women, Latinas, single women, and a bunch of others. White women (my group)in the overall vote.....pppppttttttttttlllllllllllpppppppppp!

Women voted Democratic 56% vs. males 52%, with pretty much the same breakdown and thanks going to similar groups of males.

When it was broken down by income -- the lower the income, the more likely to vote Democratic. It changed steadily toward Rethugs as income went up.

5. Great Find! Thanks, I also notced that...
More white women voted blue in 2006 than 2004 - a very positive shift - It's a trend that can be encouraged by the Democratic Party if they are smart.

The women who largely voted Red were of child rearing age. The time in their lives when they are busy out of their minds with raising and investing in their children. Perhaps this group was more susceptible to the GOP bogeyman fear factor. As a father, not a day goes by that I don't experience a twinge of fear about losing my child. I can understand a temptation to suffer a strongman like Bush if it means keeping your kids safe. But they won't suffer a corrupt, incompetent strongman, kind of defeats the purpose of selling a piece of your soul for security if the strongman is incompetent! (Also, I'm sure the Foley/cover-up helped us with this group for other obvious reasons).

Democrats need to tailor a rapport with this important demographic group for the future!

6. There was an interesting article on the BBC website yesterday
about why the Dems won, including women voters as one of the reasons. However, I cant find it now and dont have time to look.
