I wonder if they will eat their young too??

A day after the Democratic sweep of the midterm elections, Woodbury County Republican Chairman Steve Salem had harsh words for his own party, lambasting the influence of the conservative Christian right wing.

Salem said he coined a new phase: "You've heard of IslamaFascists -- I think we now have Christian fascists. What is the definition of a fascist? Not only do they want to beat you, but they want to destroy you in the process."

Salem said "if things keep going the way things are going locally and statewide, it is going to be more and more difficult for Republicans to recruit candidates. We have elements of the party who are moral absolutists, who take the approach that if you don't take my position every step of the way, not only will I not support you, but I will destroy you."

1. It took a major loss for them to figure this out? I don't think so. I think

they were more then happy living under the fascist umbrella so long as they kept on winning. They're just upset because the people had enough and voted them all out. Now they're trying to seem logical but we all know this is just a ploy. These authoritarians do not change their spots. Make no mistake, they've chosen to be republicans for a reason.

Wow! They are just starting to figure this FACT out? Well it's about time. The extremist wing of this party has way to much control. I am happy to see one of their own, calling it out. :woohoo:

6. Republicans like this Salem fellow are the most vital supporters
of what he calls the "Christian fascists." Salem's willingness to vote and work for republicans while knowing of the influence and control of the "Christian fascists" over the GOP are the only reason the "Christian fascists" have had so much power over national politics. If and when Salem, and people like him, decide that it is better to be a good American than a good republican the "Christian fascists" will lose much of their political power.

7. Sorry, hon, you gotta dance with them that brung you.
to misquote Molly Ivins. If you pander to them to get their support and use them for 6+ years, you can't complain when the rest of the country is repelled. They is what they is, darlin'.

8. This is the natural result of organizing religious extremists into your
core voting block. It's not rocket science, and anyone with half a brain saw it coming a decade ago.

But then, these are the same idiots who thought occupying Iraq would be simple- so I suppose foresight isn't one of their virtues.
