Rangel Intends to Take Cheney's Office
Rangel Intends to Take Cheney's Office

Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY), "the incoming chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, told the New York Post that he's got his eye on Capitol Hill office space now held by the man he recently called a "son of a bitch" -- Vice President Dick Cheney.

Said Rangel: "Mr. Cheney enjoys an office on the second floor of the House of Representatives that historically has been designated for the Ways and Means Committee chairman... I talked to Nancy Pelosi about it this morning... I'm trying to find some way to be gentle as I restore the dignity of that office."

As for his earlier comment to the vice president, the New York Daily News notes Rangel said, "I take back saying that publicly. I should have reserved that for him when we were together privately. Believe me, he would have understood."

5. Dupe. Sabra posted in LBN around 9:10 a.m.
Edited on Thu Nov-09-06 11:00 AM by Divernan
As I said earlier today in response to this article, let's move Cheney to whatever House office space the GOP majority allocated to Al Gore when he was VP and the GOP controlled the House.

9. Please. Let's reserve "dupe" for REAL dupes.
I.e., posts duplicated within a single forum. Please.

23. Didn't know that was there was a formal definition of "dupe"
I'll have to re-read the rules for posting to find that.

25. It's common sense, don't you think?
Not everyone in GD goes to LBN and vice versa. If this hadn't been posted here, I probably wouldn't have seen it.

31. The rules say cross posting "occasionally permitted if clear reason for doing so"
I did look up the rule on dupes, finding your response to me to be unnecessarily harsh. The rules are different than your subjective definition of "common sense". My subjective view is that most people check out LBN first, at least the LBN still on the first page, and that dupes showing up on the SAME page dilute the discussion. On the other hand threads disappear so quickly, given the volume of threads, that I would never, for example, post "dupe" on a thread in the afternoon or evening which repeated a thread of the morning or a previous day. I have often seen pleas to people to avoid starting duplicate threads; I have never seen anyone criticized for noting a dupe. (Until your comment to me). Here is the official DU comment on duplicates.

"Do not post duplicate topics that have already been posted. There are different levels of enforcement in different forums. For example, the Latest Breaking News forum has extremely strict rules against duplicate topics, but the General Discussion forum is much more lenient. Cross posting of duplicates in the two General Discussion forums is not permitted. Cross-posting of duplicates in other forums is occasionally permitted if there is a clear reason for doing so."

It's not a big deal to me, other than I don't like being snapped at.

34. I'm sorry if you thought I was snapping.
It's not a big deal to me either. I just don't understand the impulse to police dupes. Especially in the last couple of days when there have been quadrupes and more.

The dupe police. A lifetime ago, which I never hope to repeat (dupe!) was a data entery operator. To put a polite term on type til you drop.

Dupes were welcomed! If you could hit one key to duplicate a whole mess of information already typed in, oh the faster to get on with it.

However, in the modern day of message boards, if you have never had a thread striken down by the dupe rule, you just don't know the pain.

So, give a little slack and don't be calling dupe on people. No two are alike, so it really is a false start.

ed: and not everyone has the time or puts in the effort to patrol threads that you do.
Some of us catch as catch can. But your effort should be rewarded. Maybe try out for moderator.

8. What? Hastert allowed Cheney to have an office in House space?
Sounds unconstitutional and all that. Cheney is President of the SENATE, not the House.

10. I always thought that Cheney's announcement in early 2001
that he would have an office on the House side of the Capitol building in addition to his Senate office was an early acknowledgement of his (and Bush's) contempt for the Constitution. It also was an early indication that the republican House had no intention of performing its Constitutional duty of oversight of the executive branch. Fat Bastert probably was grateful that Cheney did not demand the Speaker's office.

29. If we ever get another hard-working VP like AL GORE, we might
need that office space.

Charlie has a lot more class than Cheney. Cheney never retracted his "fuck off" to Senator Leahy in the Senate.

I would like to see a cage match between Rangel and Cheney.

Sergeant Rangel would probably have too much mercy on Ol' Chicken Dickie The Deferment Man.
