Support Janitors' Strike in Houston for Increased Wage |
|
Email from American Rights at Work
More than 5,000 janitors in Houston are fighting for their families and their future in a struggle for fair wages and health insurance.
Who's opposing their chance at a better life? The list includes some of America’s largest corporations, like oil juggernaut Chevron Corp., which hauled in $14 billion in profits last year.
Houston janitors have been on strike since October 23 after negotiations broke down over the workers' basic requests. The stakes are high for every low-paid janitor on the picket line, but much higher for Ercilia Sandoval. Ercilia was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year and has no health insurance. The wealthy building landlords and tenants who own and occupy Houston's offices and who hire the cleaning contractors that employ the janitors have the deep pockets to drag out the strike, but Ercilia's life is on the line.
Here's how you can help:
Call Chevron now & tell them to settle the strike
Here's who to call:
David O’Reilly, Chevron Chair & CEO at 925-842-3232. Ed Spaulding, Chevron Policy & Public Affairs Manager at 832-854-6641. . . .
We know it's not easy to place a call to strangers, but we need to get Chevron's attention, and we hope we can count on you. Striking Houston janitors are standing up to Chevron for their future and ours. We've got to stand with them. I made my calls this morning, will you join me?
