Remember the tantrums of the RW'ers? |
|
"We're the majority!"
"No tyranny of the minority!"
"We won! So you all have sit at the back of the bus!"
"Nuclear option! No filibusters!"
It's going be a very interesting next two years.

1. Well and also things like "Permanent Majority" and Permanent Minority" |
|
Overreaches about how Conservative this country really is, and so on. And of course the Unitary Executive - we'll have to see if they hold on to that one. Bryant Check it out --> http://politicalcomment.blogspot.com

2. on the one hand, I think we're above that |
|
we are less likely to have whiney hissy-fit tantrums and understand not only nuance, but that people will disagree sometimes and that's ok.
on the other hand, the way they have treated liberals for the last decade makes me not uite ready to extend the hand yet. Where's the apology for calling us terrorists and worse? I think they need to regain our and America's trust, but I won't hold my breath waiting.

7. at this point there are two kinds of republicans left |
|
social conservatives
and the rest
The social conservatives deserve to have their faces ground into the blarp.
Hopefully 'the rest' can be brought along in a genuine spirit of cooperation and progress. Those "the rest" people don't tend to be posting all day spewing bile and repeating talking points, so if it's a target, shoot it.

5. Yepper. The "nuclear option" is now off the table for Repubs. My guess is that |
|
Orrin Hatch won't be pushing that one anymore, though I am sure he still will be whining about "upperdownvotes" on judges.

I said to all the GOP morons in my office that the nuclear option was the dumbest idea. "Why shouldn't the country not be held hostage by the minority?" they asked. I said: "Well, what happens when the GOP isn't in power and you don't have filibusters? Hmmm? Life's gonna suck when you grow up." Boy oh boy the uncomfortable silence was tasty.
I bet they're happy they still have filibuster now.

there are more than a few like them on DU today. I am tired of getting in their faces, but I've tried. At least on the national level, folks like Pelosi ARE taking the high road and leaving the talk of vengeance to the extremists.
But it is so disheartening to see that kind of stupidity here, of all places. I guess I'm just way too idealistic, but I just thought that there really was a difference between left and right. But when I read that bile and rancor, I feel like I'm on FR.
On the other hand, there have been legions saying what you are saying. "we are better than that." I shouldn't let the minority get me down, I guess.
Maybe politics will just never change.

wise, old, somewhat overweight sage, I think that the conciliatory tone would be more aggravating to the republicans. They'd rather see us with our hair on fire then reaching out to shake hands and offer a possible working relationship with the problems that face all of us. We'll let the kids have their fun but I think it will calm down.

11. Time to call them on important issues like |
|
Christmas Card lists. WASHINGTON -- Back in the mid-1990s, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, aggressively delving into alleged misconduct by the Clinton administration, logged 140 hours of sworn testimony into whether former president Bill Clinton had used the White House Christmas card list to identify potential Democratic donors. http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2005/11/20/congress_reduces_its_oversight_role/

18. I remember the unmerited gloating of the repubs, and |
|
their whining that they wouldn't brook any interference in how they, the majority, ran things.
I remember many dems saying that, on principle, repubs should show some humility, and that above all they would work--on principle--with dems.
Those "many dems" had the principles right then, when they were a minority. It'll be interesting to see if they set their principles to serve their own interests, or if they'll stick to their principles.
Personally, I like my principles and haven't changed them for the last 20 years or so.
