We should go west for a VP candidate in 2008 |
|
Two who might make interesting choices, imo, for VP are Governor Brian Schweitzer of Montana and NM Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico (who actually might go for the top job). Other possibilities may be Arizona Governor Napolitano and while she isn't exactly in the west--Governor Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas. All four of these people just won big re-elections in red or purple states (NM is almost blue).

9. I'd love to see a Gore/Schweitzer ticket |
|
Both of them understand that global climate change is real. To me, that's the most important issue we have yet to really face.

3. Sebelius says she will fulfill her term |
|
Besides I'd like to see her take Brownback's seat in 2010. I think she'd make as great a senator as she has been a governor.

but they won't be eligible until 18 years after they've been adopted, implanted and indoctrinated.
Hopefully, he'll be long (and involuntarily) retired by then.

15. Serious question, now that asshats Ryun and Kline have been removed |
|
Do you think there's a chance that Kansas voters will decide that Brownback is too crazy for them?

16. He's promised not to run again |
|
He says he supports term limits and he has promised not to run again (for senator) in 2010. fwiw, I think his credibility was damaged because of his alleged ties to Opus Dei, the snowflake episode and his insistence/belief in creationism. Kansans have voted out the most of the creationists on the school board so I think more people are aware what an ideologue he is but we're not taking any chances. I'm still making sure that everyone knows what a wingnut he is.
Our other senator, Pat Roberts, is up in 2008. He's another from the same cloth - anti-gay marriage, anti-evolution, anti-abortion, pro-NSA, pro-Bush, etc. One of the bright spots of the hate-filled agendas that the GOP has pushed is that Roberts' has been outed, so to speak, of going along too much with the Bush agenda. People know that he's more fanatical than he let on during his campaigns. Then there's all that crap he's pulled by withholding information by virtue of his chairmanship of the Intelligence Committee. He's not as popular or well-liked as he once was. I know I'm going to work to make sure he doesn't get another term. We got rid of our one of "favorite sons" on Tuesday when Kansans turned against Jim Ryun, I really think Roberts is more beatable now than he was before.

17. A promise not to run again doesn't mean shit |
|
Even the guy in my avatar didn't keep his promise to abide by term limits. Once you get to Washington many people decide they like the job too much to leave or in Wellstone's case decide that they have too much that they haven't accomplished and want more time to do it.

18. Yes, but our first target is Pat Roberts |
|
since his seat is up first. So that's where our energies are going first.
Kathleen Sebelius' second term as governor ends in 2010 and she may run to take Brownback's seat in the senate.

5. Schweitzer! I really hope to have P and VP candiates who are from flippable red states |
|
and who AREN'T senators (they are much easier to smear). Obviously, the candidates need to be good, first and foremost. I just feel that if Kerry or Edwards were governors of Ohio or Florida, they'd be sitting in the Whitehouse right now. Or if Gore had chosen Graham of FL as VP, they'd be in the Whitehouse right now.
