Cry Me A River Time: "Out-of-Work GOP Aides Face Tough Road Ahead"
From Roll Call:

Out-of-Work GOP Aides Face Tough Road Ahead

By Kate Ackley
Roll Call Staff

November 9, 2006

The hundreds of Republican staffers — not to mention more than a few Members — who will lose their jobs in the next few weeks are going to face a hostile marketplace on K Street as unemployed Republicans flood the market.

Tuesday’s election results sent at least 20 incumbents in the House and Senate packing and flipped control of the House to Democrats. It also flipped a decade-long trend of Republicans as the darlings of the lobbying sector. While GOP aides are flooding the town with their résumés, it’s now plugged-in Democratic aides whom companies and firms really have an eye for.

“It’s going to be more of a buyer’s market for Republican staffers and a seller’s market for the Democratic staffers,” said Mike Tongour, who runs Tongour Simpson Holsclaw, a boutique lobbying firm with no Democrats on the payroll. “We’ve had a couple of phone calls from Democrats who are thinking about leaving the Hill, and we’re interested in talking to them.”

Finding it difficult not to laugh.

Think of all the lobbyists who had to be registered R's before they even got a foot in the door.

8. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid should pass public financing of campaigns legislation
Because these lobbyists are going to cross the aisles to get with the power and try to corrupt Democrats this time.

11. Nobody is in those jobs forever, and if these staffers thought they would be,
they obviously don't understand democracy.

It's the nature of the beast: Your job only lasts as long as your party's in power.

They can always get jobs at Walmart, rather than be a drain on the taxpayers.

20. Look to Wall Street to hire all the brown-nosed, yes-men.
They need to strengthen the echo chamber that keeps telling us that stocks are up when adjusted for inflation they're losing money. GM and Ford seem to have a never ending hiring program for suck-ups too.

23. Shut down all lobbyists, Dem or Republican
It's not hundreds unemployed, it's thousands. With the flip of the committees, the Dems get to hire all the committee staffs, and they're often HUGE and partisan. But letting the lobbyists play their game of hiring a few Dems while they remain solidly right-wing hurts us now and later. Shut them down. Send them a letter that no Dem will meet with them, no matter who they send. And send copies to their clients, which are listed on their websites. Drain the swamp, and cut off the money, and get these anti-democratic lizards out of DC for good. No one is going to listen to their "money is free speech" garbage in this environment. Get them now, before they worm their way back in.
