I think there is some sort of rift between Bush and Cheney & that's why
Cheney was hauled out to stand behind Bush this morning at the quick press conf. Bush gave.

I've read that the rift was about Rumsfeld and the appointment of Gates. Probably goes deeper than that--maybe a power struggle between Poppy and Cheney over who gets to tell Dubya what to do.

Makes me happy to think that everyone is pissed off at everyone else at the White House right now!

1. Some reporter claimed there was a rift between Cheny and Bush yesterday...
so they haul him out. I'm surprised they weren't kissing each other.

2. Poppy hated the neocons when they were the crazies in the basement
Having watched how his dimson followed their advise into disaster, I suspect Poppy is more outraged than ever.

3. Dick Cheney will be out by January IMHO
...I think Rumsfeld will begin squealing like a pig when he is hauled up on war crimes charges and Cheney has a lot to fear when Donald starts talking.

5. Yes. Cheney is no longer the advisor. He's the ULTIMATE lame duck.
Cheney and Rummy are best pals. Cheney WORKED for Rummy in the Ford White House. Rummy always felt safe, because Cheney, his former protege, had his back.

This is Bush 41's "second term." He's bringing back the old crew--Baker, Scowcroft, and Gates (who was a principal asst to Scowcroft, in addition to his CIA gig). He took Junior by the EAR and dragged him off. That's why Monkeyboy was forced to be conciliatory, and make bad jokes about recommending GOP interior decorators to hang drapes...!!!!! Poppy MADE him!

was exemplified by Rummy and Cheney.

Veep Unlikely to Be Axed, Insiders Say
Minutes after President George W. Bush announced the resignation of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, Vice President Dick Cheney reportedly confronted Mr. Bush in the Oval Office and said to his boss, "If you're thinking of firing me, remember, I have those naked pictures of you and that goat."

12. Remember 41 hated Rumsfeld but not Cheney
41 thought Rumsfeld was arrogant and worthless. 43 was talked into hiring him by Cheney. 43 believed (was told by Cheney?) that he would prove his father wrong by showing Rumsfeld as a great SecDef.

Obviously 41 is bailing him out again but Baker is the one who insisted Rumsfeld go. Question is, why did 43 agree to Baker going to Iraq to try and save his butt? Baker apparently secured an agreement that whatever he suggested Bush would follow. Baker's report would not have been well received by Rumsfeld so Baker apparently said he would not submit the report only to have Rummy dis it so Rummy had to go.

The question then is this: did Baker get an agreement from Cheney that Cheney wouldn't dis it either? I'm seeing Cheney and Rummy as thick as thieves; whatever Rummy wants, Cheney gets for him. So either Baker brought Cheney around to his way of thinking on Iraq or Cheney agreed to keep his mouth shut about it. Since Cheney was elected, Bush legally can't make him resign although I don't think it would ever come to that.
