Before we have an impeachment we need an investigation
I highly doubt that Conyers or Pelosi is going to back away from that. We put the Cart before the horse and scream impeachment now, we'll get nothing but division between the parties and probably an impeachment like what Clinton had.

I would prefer a thorough investigation by John Conyers and the democrats. When the truth is exposed we may find that even republicans are going to want to see him out of there.

It's the natural progression - investigation first, find out who is accountable and then hold them to that accountability

2. Yes! people here think all we do is go in there and file charges of
impeachment, but we need investigations to get the congess and the American people behind it or it will be like Clinton in '98 where the republicans got egg on their face.

3. Exactly right
I wouldn't doubt investigations will start as early as February. We have won, but we've given our people an awesome task. We need to let them settle into the job first and do this right. They'll do us proud.

4. Yeah, but it's pretty much scripted already.
We and others have been working on this non-stop for, what, three years now. It's not like we just caught some punks breaking into Howard Dean's office, and need to spend time putting the pieces together. This is a very simple process, and it's required by the oaths taken by the people who represent us. They have no right to say that impeachment is off the table. That is ridiculous.

6. You know it, I know it but Joe & Jane Public may not be convinced of it
We do not want a Clinton impeachment where the public turns against us! Investigation is all good!

5. "we may find that even republicans are going to want to see him out of there"
I believe this is what happened to Nixon. Once the evidence began to mount against him, it was the Republicans who saw the writing on the wall and advised him to do the "right thing."

I agree: have a thorough investigation and let's see then...

At the very least, if such an investigation didn't result in impeachment, then what Bush and his gang of thugs and cutthroats did would become public record and part of the official record.

7. Yep ...
If you investigate to impeach, you will put a good portion of the country against you, for embarking on a witch hunt.
The only thing you can do is investigate. If there is merit, impeachment will come all by itself.

Remember, we accuse the Republicans of making a decision (attack Iraq), and THEN finding evidence to support that decision (WMD, Democracy, etc.). We would be doing the same thing as them in the case to impeach the AWOL cowboy.

Cheers
Drifter

9. I agree yet the only problem is
they've consistantly stalled, blocked, obfuscated, every bit of scrutiny of them and their nefarious deeds.

Everything from the energy commission task force, to abu graib, to bogus intelligence, the downing street memos, Plamegate. . .etc.

I just hope these Dems have got the spine for it.

10. No Impeachment. None.
The New Face of the Democratic Senate are people like Jon Testor
and James H. Webb.

Impeachment's a waste of time.

Look for Biden to hold "Fulbright-type" Hearings in January, though.
Those not familiar with the term...google it.
