Some interesting tidbits about the election
ELECTION ROUNDUP | Most female Senators
With the victories of Missouri’s Claire McCaskill and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, the U.S. Senate will have a record 16 women.

•••

The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence said it won five out of five races for governor and four out of four races for the U.S. Senate in which the group went head to head with candidates endorsed by the National Rifle Association. In the U.S. House, it appears some 109 candidates either endorsed or A-rated by the National Rifle Association went down to defeat, along with 18 candidates for the U.S. Senate.

In one case, Gov. Bob Ehrlich of Maryland received the NRA’s endorsement on Election Day and then lost to Baltimore Mayor Martin O’Malley, who strongly supports passing a state assault weapons ban.

•••

The Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund said 67 candidates it had endorsed were elected to federal, state and local offices.

Alabama, Arkansas and Oklahoma elected their first openly gay or lesbian state legislators:

Jolie Justus, who will represent District 10 in the Missouri Senate, is the first in state history. Kansas is one of 13 states that have no openly gay or lesbian state legislators.
