Kos: Tester and Webb proved the power of the Netroots Dems
http://feeds.dailykos.com/~r/dailykos/index/~3/47228170/253

This should've been, by all means, a year in which the Republicans made gains. Or, at the very least, held their own. That Rove killed his party's Senate majority by making gambits for New Jersey, Maryland, and Michigan will go down in infamy. Had he spent some of that money earlier on Burns in Montana, we'd probably have a 50-50 Senate today. And they never should've lost Virginia.

Perhaps not so coincidentally, those are our two people-powered Senators -- Webb and Tester.
Republicans underestimated our ability to identify quality leaders and flex our muscles in those Red states. And thus, it was the two biggest netroots-backed candidates that literally pushed the Senate into our column. Feels pretty darn good!

In any case, 2008 looks far, far different. If all goes well, we should be lining up for an absolute slaughter of the GOP. In two years, Republicans will be defending 21 seats, to 12 of our own. A large number of those Republicans will be freshmen.

Bottom Line:

Top Democratic Pickup Opportunities: Colorado, Kentucky, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Oregon, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Potential Democratic pickup opportunities: Mississippi, Nebraska, Oklahoma.

Top GOP Pickup Opportunities: Louisiana, New Jersey, South Dakota

Potential GOP pickup opportunities: West Virginia

A more complete look at the 2008 races below the fold.

1. I would love to work on getting Allard out...
We need to start working today. We got Salazar last time, so hopefully we can get a Dem this time. (And statewide we just got Ritter.)

Oh yeah, here in Denver we seriously need to work on the voting machine problem, our mayor, Hickenlooper has put up a new idea to fix this, so hopefully it will work out by 2008.
