True Christians and Patriots won this election day

November 9, 2006
The Straight Story

I spent a large part of my youth as a Baptist and a few years therein as a Pentecostal. I switched to Lutheran, then fell out of religion and faith all together for years.

Now I brand myself an independent Christian.

I have spent some time today reading various websites, from catholic and baptist news to conservative sites. I thought I would take a few moments to point out some things for you.

1. The Christian faith is like a multi-faceted jewel. As the light of God shines on it we each may see differences in the refraction of that light. That is to be expected in any belief system - or political one.
The US is very similar. We all read the same founding documents, but we walk away with differences as to what some things mean, or were meant to mean. So we debate, argue, and dig for original intent and how it applies to today.

So let us start from there.

2. One thing we find common ground on is freedom. We all want more of it. Both sides of the political aisle claims the other one wants you have to less. It can be anything from smoking in bars to wiretapping. From what we say or do in schools, to small towns displaying holiday decorations for it's townsfolk to enjoy.

God also gave you freedom. To live by his rules (as you interpret them) or to not live by them (I use 'his' loosely here, God is a spirit but it is more convenient to use 'his' here and it does give a nod to Jesus as well).

Your freedoms in the US are to be able to restrict your freedoms freely within the confines of your religion. You fear Islam influencing laws and making an Islamic state - well, many of us fear your particular faith wants to do the same - IE, to limit the freedoms we have been given.

To sum up - A free country is not going to stay free if those who choose to limit their own rights force others to do the same. And that goes for more than just religion I might add.

3. Abortion and Homosexuality

If you against such things, I would say that you should not engage in them. See #2 above.

But let us go a step further here and examine the whys of it all, and what you failed to do.

The idea with abortion is that you see it as murder, and therefore against God's laws. So you want the state to enforce this belief. Yet you do not wish to do the same for other beliefs - especially when those beliefs go along with liberals.

Helping the poor and needy, not going off to war killing a bunch of people because you did not believe God could protect you, and judging others by your own measure while not even trying to understand their situation (ie, we are all sinners so God could have written you off, but did not and forgave you your mistakes and even died to make sure you could get the help you needed).

Think for a minute about people who are psychologically messed up, or made bad decisions and are in a bind and need help, depressed, etc. Sure if we help people there will be some who take advantage of it, but is that a reason not to help? It ticks off God (see the sheep and the goats) but you are not out there rushing to use the government to help people.

Why be so inconsistent?

Homosexuality is also seen in all this. WHY the hell should you even care? Do what it is you feel right for yourself, and keep praying, bring your kids up in the way you want them, trust in God, and you won't have to worry that some gay people are trying to recruit your kids. But you fear - so you want to make others be like you. What, you don't trust God?

If being gay is a sin to you, then don't do it. End of discussion.

-----Wrapping up:

True Christians and Patriots won this election because they believe in God's message of each person has a choice to make. Compare that to those who want to limit choice.

True Christians and Patriots won this election because they heard God's word about love and kindness towards others, and doing all you can to give them a second chance - and more (How many times shall I forgive, 7? No, 7 times 7). You want to punish people for their problems and blame them, and let them suffer and their kids suffer to 'learn em right'.

True Christians and Patriots won this election because they know our government is founded on freedom and people being able to exercise that.

I will promise you this - I will fight any side of the aisle that wants to take away my freedoms. I will bitch about Pelosi the same as I would Bush if either does something to take away my rights. But I can tell that from where I sit, Pelosi and crew are more for the rights of people than you.

2. Thanks - hopefully they can as well :)
Only time will tell.

I am reminded of a Christian musician named Keith Green. He said 'Going to church does not make you a Christian any more than going to McDonald's makes you a Hamburger'. I think that relates as well to making laws to force people to be a Christian does not make them one.

3. Agree, But ...
there are non-Christians such as Jews, Muslims, and non-Abrahamics who are true to their faiths and who also love this great country. Their work and sacrifices need to be acknowledged as well.

BLESS THEM ALL!
