No, I'm not talking about all DUers. I'm talking about stuff like people "deciding" whether or not to impeach when it's not their decision to make. For crying out loud, you're in your computer den right now, and you are probably not going to leave for the rest of the night. You will be back tomorrow and do the same.

On the other hand, Rahm Emanuel (my representative and he's cool) takes the dice! He's out there all slick, winning elections for the reps, and basically smoking up the political scene all across the nation!

Please do something and get involved in real politics with your local Democratic party. I have two links that you can usually see in my signature for getting involved, but now that that feature is off I'll just post them here:

http://www.illinoisdemnet.org
http://dnc.meetup.com

Getting involved and having to do some real work and think about how you'll solve some real problems will help ground you in reality, and actually make you feel more like you can make a difference. You'll know a lot more about how to get what you want: what works, and what doesn't.

on the other hand, let's not beat ourselves up with
caricatures of people in pajamas at their keyboards.

The blogosphere, the internet, and the constant
agitation of people like DU ers and Kossacks
has been absolutely essential to keeping the
media's feet to the fire, informing and
organizing the base that won this election.

... were supposed to represent us. Yes, they make the final decision about how to vote on a given measure because we live in a republic, but DU is one way that we let them know what we want, so that they can represent us. We can boot them if they don't. Remind them of that, would you?

Thanks!

65. I almost certainly will write just such a letter.
But, you see, this is where public opinion in a particular wing of the Democratic party is shaped. This is where we fight media spin. This is how we do it. This is where we refine our arguments, so that when we present them to our elected representatives, we can have them polished and effective.

In other words, this is a useful exercise. I'm sorry that you can't see that.

share in the glory with Howard Dean. Rahm seems all too eager to soak up the congrats while omitting the FACT that HE wasn't the sole reason the Dems won. I've never once heard him give ANY credit to Dean. Doesn't that seem a bit odd to you? Enough, already.

If you want to know, though, I donated about $2,000 to various Dem candidates this election cycle and I'm on a number of Dem committees in my area as well as an officer in my local party. I'm also a past member of the DLC.

31. I don't see how having this guy as a Rep
gives you any kind of authority to lecture people on what they should do with their time.

"Getting involved and having to do some real work and think about how you'll solve some real problems will help ground you in reality, and actually make you feel more like you can make a difference. You'll know a lot more about how to get what you want: what works, and what doesn't."

This is the most condescending claptrap I've read today. It's insulting to the thousands of people here who already contribute, and the thousands of people who simply do not have the time or resources to contribute. And who are you to judge if people simply don't want to. Activism is a choice.

That's because you are an ass.... republican light one. Good job in sucking up to the GOP. Bravo... now go away. We don't need your type... notice?

"In private talks before the election, Emanuel and other top Democrats told their members they cannot allow the party's liberal wing to dominate the agenda next year. Democrats will hold 30 or 35 seats that went for Bush in the past, meaning that Democratic candidates such as Brad Ellsworth in rural Indiana are likely to face competitive races again in 2008. Still, their interests are likely to collide with those of veteran liberals such as Reps. Henry A. Waxman (Calif.) and John Conyers Jr., (Mich.), who will chair committees.

With that in mind, there is a chance the 110th Congress could begin on a bipartisan note. Democrats have vowed to move quickly to tighten ethics laws and require offsets for new spending — two plans many Republicans will probably support in light of yesterday's results. Democrats also plan to push next year to raise the minimum wage, increase spending for cargo inspection at ports and reduce rates on student loans, all issues likely to draw some GOP support.

Partisan standoffs are likely over the war and any Democratic efforts to repeal Bush's tax cuts for upper-income America. In both cases, Democratic divisions could complicate Pelosi's plans. Democrats largely avoided detailed positions on a new Iraq strategy, but votes over spending for the military and the Iraq operation will force them to take a position."

You guys aren't on the people's side. Your effort's today show your true colors....
