Who are the potential switchers in the Senate?
Can anybody think of any? Are Snowe and Collins possible? Is Specter considered a potential switch?

Dem Senate majority -- Cheney would once again have the tie-breaking vote.

I have no idea if he'd do such a thing, but I do wonder if there's any sort of temptation and/or pressure going on behind the scenes. After all, the Republicans were his most reliable allies this past election...

17. He'd never be trusted by the Repubs and he'd be hated by the Dems
Lieberman is narrow-minded and self-centered, but he's not stupid. Not that stupid anyway.

5. No names, but we could pick up quite a few
Remember that after we lost Congress in 1994, several Democrats crossed the aisle. (Ben Nighthorse Campbell comes to mind for some reason.)

Republicans have better party discipline, but we could pick up a few. I would love to see nine senators cross over--this would give us the 60 seats we need to pass fiscal legislation without counting on Republicans.

15. Senators though?
Were there SEnators that switched parties after 94 too? I was only aware of the congressmen that switched.

18. There were two
Richard Shelby switched the day after the election, and Ben Nighthorse Campbell switched some time later.

I don't know if we can get eight, but two or three is doable.

6. Personally, I don't see them switching.
And, quite frankly, there is a need for a few sensible rethugs.

However, wouldn't it be funny is Lieberman came back?

They might vote like sane people now though. Especially Olympia.

14. Specter's made some noises about it
I imagine there'd be a nice committee chairmanship in it for him. He's already been talking about how the Republican party has moved away from its center out into the lunatic fringes.
