Understand this, if investigations warrant impeachment(s) then
Edited on Thu Nov-09-06 08:05 PM by texpatriot2004
so be it. I just took offense to another thread here entitled, "People should understand there will be no impeachment" if it didn't say that exactly it was something very close to that.

First, it is wrong for anyone here to make such carte blanche statements with such a tone of finality as if any of us were running the show. IMHO

Second, That said, I think it is silly of us to begin in-fighting based on impeachment. Can we put off in-fighting for at least a few days and celebrate, together, the victory of the moment.

Third, if, as a result of investigations which lead to sufficient evidence of wrong doing or downright criminal behavior then impeachment is the appropriate action and should not be ruled out.

C'mon ya'll, for the moment at least, don't worry, be happy...We won the Senate, we won the House. We won it all. The people won this. Power to the people!

Besides, we now have capable and informed people in power; let's trust them to do their jobs and support them in doing them.

Oh, and one more thing, I can't stand those authoritarian type posts, you know the bossy ones that seem to be telling everyone what to do, or that have a controlling subtext to them. I'll decide for myself because I'm the DECIDE-R!

3. Ignoring criminals is criminal
Anyone who suggests we turn a blind eye or give a free pass to a criminal is a criminal.

In the course of setting things right, many things will be uncovered. Those things need to be used to prosecute, impeach and imprison. Period.

It's all part of the work that needs done.

5. I believe that two thirds or more of Americans want to see
...both Bush and Cheney impeached sooner rather than later, and they also want the neo-cons who have been pulling Bush's strings behind the scenes as well as in government exposed and prosecuted. This process should begin immediately with Donald Rumsfeld.

7. i saw that post and found it irksome too...
...let's have thorough, professional investigations of the appropriate matters --- the ones they tried to keep secret ...then let's have a decision on impeachment...
...i'm tired of hearing, 'oh, boy,' let's impeach.
...let's investigate....see if there's a Nixonesque "smoking gun' like the June 23, 1972 oval office tape that clearly showed nixon used govt. agencies to obstruct justice and stymie the watergate investigation.
.....keep it real, my people. wait and see.

8. yeah.. i made some pointed statements earlier myself
that I feel should have been toned done a bit.
I think there's alot of discussion yet to be had, and this is a great forum for it.
I am proud that the discussions on DU have generally been calm and civil, and I look forward to the debate.

Everyone here has great reason to be happy either way, right?

10. A reasoned position texpatriot2004
There will be investigations and we'll be watching them quite closely. No more 9/11 WHitewash Commissions...no more Lee Hamilton's as designated Democrat / Republican crime fixer.

15. Yes, if they have lock-tight grounds, as with Nixon
Otherwise, let the courts get the SOB. I want this congress to work its butt off so we can sweep again in 08 and undo as much of this fascist garbage as possible before then.

17. Impeachment is a political act, but there is also a legal process.
This means that what is needed is both evidence and political will. Nixon would have been impeached if he hadn't resigned, and the reason for that was that by the end of the Watergate hearings it was obvious to everyone -- not just Congress, but Nixon's own party and most of the public -- that he'd been involved in some very stinky stuff and deserved to be impeached and tried. Clinton's ridiculous impeachment was a failure mainly because there was no popular support for it. If, following investigations and hearings, there is sufficient evidence to support impeachment AND there is popular support for it, I feel confident that it will be back "on the table." But the investigations have to come first. I believe those investigations will reveal much more dirt than we know about already...

18. i havent been folowing impeachment threads. seems a lot of emotion
trying to figure out what might happen when nothing has happened yet. as if fact is in place, when reality, isnt happening. htis makes no sense to me what so ever. and people are making it a reality with so much emotion and intensity, anyway.... we will see what happens. there are lots and lots of days to get thru before we even have a clue.

seems to me to be a silliness not needed, nor productive

20. Yikes! The pres. can appoint a new V-P if Cheney resigns.
That's the 25th amendment.

Also, Ted Stevens, from Alaska, will be in the mix, if either the chimp or dick are gone for any reason.

It's possible Nancy Pellosi will get to serve, but, it's not a shoe-in.

So, if we take out the boy king and dick resigns, we've got Ted Stevens limping along.

Yikes! Rice is in the line, too.

I'm not sure what change would occur: It's possible Stevens would continue the B* crime family business for them.

But, maybe not. He's an old man and may not want to get his hands dirty.

I really know we don't want to give it to Rice.
