Will Rebub pols feel more emboldened to cross party lines now?
Prior to Tuesday, there was a stranglehold on all Repukes to keep in lockstep with their fearless leader. If they spoke out of turn, they got threatened and quickly issued a contrite retraction. If they voted out of party, they knew that they'd be blackballed and/or punished. Darth Cheney, Terrah-rized voters, Homeland Security and threats that we'll never hear about were putting their balls in a vice. The fear was palpable.

But they also made a number of off the record comments along the way intimating that they wished that they sometimes could vote for what was right rather than what was RightWing. Now, it seems, they have the chance. They have had one embarrassment after another lately, and their blind allegiance to the party now puts their future at risk. Distance from the pResident, according to the voters, is more important than cooperation.

I think we'll know early on if we're gonna see more maverick Repubs once the voting begins. Do they venture across the aisle or will they stubbornly cling to party line?
