3. Doesn't matter what he does.
If we win this one, we either get an acceptable nominee or he never gets to fill that vacancy.

4. he'll just nominate one of the flying pigs
or one of the monkeys that flew out of my butt.

I stongly support a filibuster, but I don't believe that it is going to hold. But, if it did, bush would nominate Priscilla Ownes or Janice Rogers Brown.

13. I didn't say they'd be confirmed.
If a filibuster of Alito were to be successful, then those two would be filibustered as well.

But, IMO, filibustering Alito successfully would not cow bush into nominating a moderate. It would force him into a corner.

5. He'll re-nominate Harriet Miers if Alito is not confirmed.
Yes, Harriet Miers. He loves her as a White House staffer. He loves her supplication, her slobbering praise, her dazed expression.

He will hold a press conference to tell Americans that he should have stuck with his girl all along, and that by god those nasty senators had better just listen up.

__

Ok, it's not going to be Harriet Miers. It WILL be Priscilla Owens, though, and that won't be pretty.

10. Leave an opening (or more) on the SC until W's lawbreaking has been fully
investigated.
The SC has functioned in the past without the full complement of judges and it can do so again.

11. Don't ever forget, Bork was filibustered and we got Scalia!!!
Can anyone honestly say we got a good bargain?

16. Wrong.
Scalia easily got in after the contentious elevation of Rehnquist to Chief Justice.

After Bork was outright rejected, Reagan's second nominee Ginsberg withdrew after it turned out he was a pothead, and then we got Anthony Kennedy.

14. Number 2
would be his only option. Remember Harriet Meirs? The Pukes killed her nomination. Do you think they were scared of losing their jobs?
And they Dems should stand up and say they are going to fix this *ed up Medicare bill, and stop billions of dollars in cuts to Medicaid. This is not about *. It's about OUR country being taken over.

15. Number 1 of course.
Just as Alito was much more conservative then Miers, if there is to be next one, he/she will be more conservative then Alito . But it's a moot point.

19. Don't know; don't much care
Let's take these fights one at a time.

I notice that Republican Senatory Lincoln Chaffee has said he will not vote to confirm Mr. Alito. Should I hold my breath waiting for headlines trumpeting the "bipartisan" opposition to the nomination?
