Mehlman, Outted on Wednesday, Steps Down on Thursday --->>>
Edited on Thu Nov-09-06 10:53 PM by Stephanie

These GOPpers can dish it out, but they sure can't take it. One little loss, one little mention of their personal hypocrisy, and they call it quits.

Mehlman to step down from RNC post

WASHINGTON - Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman, whose party lost both chambers of Congress in the midterm elections, will step down from his post when his two-year term ends in January, GOP officials said Thursday.

The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because Mehlman had not yet made his intentions public.

Brian Jones, an RNC spokesman, declined to comment beyond saying that an announcement about Mehlman's future with the party would be made in the days ahead.

Democrats won control of the House and Senate on Tuesday by capitalizing on voter frustration with President Bush, the war in Iraq and the scandal-scarred Congress. Democrats also took a majority of governors' posts and gained a decisive edge in state legislatures.

And here's Bill Maher stating the obvious, which CNN then excised from the rebroadcast.

4. The fact that CNN got rid of that speaks to the level of ignorance
in this country. So he's gay, so what? They aided in making this dirty and unspeakable, and I don't know if that was their 'judgement' or Mehlman's wishes to continue to closet himself.

14. Not outed for Being Gay, Mehlman is Being Outed for being a
HYPOCRITE. This was clearly pointd out today on Enid Live, the Air America radio station in Sacramento. (Enid Goldstein is a local drive time talk host who is very good - tune in she is worth the time)

Today, a self-identified lesbian pointed out the difference between outing a GLBT person versus outing a hypocrite. Wrong to out a gay person for being gay - we are not evil for being attracted to persons of the same sex. Sexuality is not wrong - it is what it is.

But, people who use their positions of power to enjoy the finacial and security benefits of their positions of power while they devote their prcious human energy to get people elected who pass laws to oppress their own kind (in this case gay people) are hypocrite. People who are hypocrite have not safe harbor whether they are gay or black or Jewish or Irish or woman.

Mehlman is outed for being a hypocrite not for being gay.

23. Oh, c'mon
He was outed for being gay, and Bill Maher is a despicable little toad. As someone upthread noted, everyone and their brother knew Melman was gay, and he never denied it. He's under no fucking obligation to announce his sexual orientation, and he didn't lie about it. It's no one's business but his. I suggest you get off your self-righteous high horse.

26. Actually, I'm climbin' on that horse myself. I am a gay man and I have followed
Closet-case Ken's career quite closely, and as far as I am concerned, OUT THE FUCKER! Maybe you're not gay, so you don't get it. It is NOT OK to front the biggest bunch of homophobic bigots outside of the Catholic church and then run home to his "significant other" waiting at the townhouse in Georgetown. He enjoyed a type of equality that money and privilege brought, while encouraging that other gays not have the same.

Next time you tell someone to get off their high horse, climb off yours first.

"everyone and their brother knew Melman was gay, and he never denied it" no one should actually say it.

33. Thank you!
If you are gay, you should not be bashing other gays. You should not work for an organization who has as one of its planks denying you civil rights.

Remember J.C. Watts Jr. of Oklahoma, who used to be a Republican congressman? His dad said that a black Republican was like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders.

Well, Mary Cheney, it's the same for a gay Republican. It's like a chicken voting for Sonny Perdue, a cow voting for Ronald McDonald, a pig voting for Jimmy Dean, a fish voting for Mrs. Paul.

Now, I am not gay, so I do not know personally what it is like to discover that you are not like other little girls and boys and the fear of discovery and the fear of what everyone you know will say. I cannot even imagine what it is like to live with this quandary. But as Dan Savage once pointed out, at some point, the anguish of staying in the closet overwhelms the fear of what will happen if you come out.

I have no sympathy for these self-loathing pricks. At some point, you have to shake off some of your religious teaching and realize that if there is a god, he/she/it made you the way you are for a reason.

One of Tweety's talking heads said Mehlman would be leaving the RNC to work on Guiliani's Presidential campaign.

30. Does Rudy associate
with homosexuals by design. When he separated from his wife he was living with some gay men. Although he said, "Thank God George Bush is President." upon seeing people jumping to their deaths on 9-11, at least Rudy's not known as a gay basher. A liar maybe, but not a gay basher.

34. No, just the Rethuglican High Command that sold their souls to whomever
would help them claw their way to power. They didn't give a shit about the best interests or needs of the country, only their owned cult-like quest for power. There is a whole nation of decent men and women that identify as Republican that have come to realize that the High Command had someone else's best interests at heart.
