1. Who said it?
I'd consider that rumor fodder; trying to cause trouble where there probably is none.

about potential new directions for war policy and committee appointments in the new congress of a guy from Bloomberg News. Sounds like it is common knowledge in DC circles.

Perhaps we should work on getting our Congress critters to practice detente.

9. Harman is in line to be Chairman for House Intelligence Committee
However, that committee doesn't work like the others; Pelosi herself said they usually replace everyone with new members for new terms and Harman won't necessarily end up with that position. Seemed to me she was saying "it ain't gonna happen".

Maybe there's something to the rumors; maybe not.

6. Wow. And here I was thinking they were both just strong-willed

women from CA who might have butted heads upon occasion. Thanks again!

Edit to add: If Harmon was involved in hidden negotiations to make deals, a la all the corrupt rethugs, I do hope she is outed and then thrown out. We don't need a scandal to darken our doorstep now or at any time.

3. Pelosi considers Harmon to have been too hawkish on Iraq
read that somewhere around DU. Is it really true? I dunno.

5. You Nailed It...
Jane Harmon is to the right of most of her delegation and the Democratic party on defense issues...

That's ok. We are a big tent. If we are a big enough tent for Heath Schuler and Gene Taylor we are a big enough tent for Jane Harmon.

I rather have the moderate and conservative Democrats in our tent pissing out than outside the tent pissing in.

7. After reading that article, I don't want Harman to be given
any significant committee appointments around defense and intelligence.

11. If people want to start throwing mud at Democrats here on DU
Pelosi was given a lot of lobbyist money from Taiwain

One of the most forward looking things this Congress could do is GET RID OF ALL THE LOBBYISTS, start public financing of elections, and bring back paper ballots

10. Will The Real Jane Harmon Please Stand Up...
Hopefully she won't be given the keys to a chairmanship...this lady blows from left to right and back again wherever she sees it serves her purpose.

She was one of the bigger war hawks and up to a year ago was still spewing the crapola of how we either were "winning" or should be "winning" in Iraq. She was then taken to the woodshed by Kos and tried to cover her ass by blogging on there for a while. Actually, it seems that did some good and her support for this invasion began to wane, but it wasn't because she saw the war as being wrong, but purely for the political gain of hopping on the "anti-Iraq" bandwagon.

Most important, Harmon was privvy to a lot of intelligence and other information, like Jay Rockefeller, that she kept quiet about. She surely knows a lot more about how the money was allocated and who got nice payoffs...also about the cooked intel and other regime lies, but remained silent. Her fear of being dragged through the GOOP slime machine kept her in check.

Harmon is a loose cannon...not someone you can rely on. I don't blame Congressman Pelosi for not trusting her...especially in the chair of a committee that will be crucial to bringing American military involvement in this ugly war to an end.
