Revised Number of Iraqi dead - 150,000 or so. |
|
Edited on Fri Nov-10-06 08:54 AM by leftyladyfrommo
I saw this in this morning's paper - it's about 3 times higher than was published previously.
So, I guess the real figure is somewhere between 100,000 and 600,000 depending on where you look.
Doesn't matter which one - they are horrible.
US casulaites - 2,842
US wounded - 21,572

1. What's the administration's view on that? It's only a number? : ( |

This is from the kansas city star this morning. But leftchick is right - the Guardian reported that over 600,000 have been killed. That number has been disputed but a lot of people think it is closer to the real number. http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/news/nation/15975034.htm

7. the wording makes all the difference |
|
"How many were killed" vs. "How many died as a result of".
The Lancet article was investigating the latter--including deaths due to disease, increased infant mortality, etc.
Thanks for the link.

3. much closer to the 600,000 figure |
|
I would take a peer reviewed Lancet figure over the Iraqi puppets any day.

4. Several years have passed since previously published numbers, |
|
so it makes sense these numbers are higher.
They probably only count deaths caused directly by armed actions, instead of including deaths caused by decease that results from destruction of infrastructure (open sewers, lack of clean drinking water).

6. I think this 150,000 is just deaths due to insurgents - whatever |
|
that means.
Seems like most of the deaths now are caused by sunni vs Shia fighting. I don't know if those numers are included in this or not.
I don't think anyone has any idea how many are dead - it is just a huge number.
