that is why it is news.
by biggest worry, is that the housing bust is going to tank the economy into a recession and somehow they are going to try and blame DEMs

Democrats are investors too... I suspect many Democrats are invested in the market.
I also think if major coporations like Ford and General Motors go bankrupt there's going to be a lot of working folks without health care, jobs, or pensions...

the emphasis on Wall Street's reaction rather than the simple truth that the market will simply have to adjust to the will of the fugging people. The way the discussion is being presented suggests that the corporations interests matter more than the people. Why do these oligarchs who control the media believe that their interests supercede the will of the people.
I thought the majority of the people made a statement about the role of special interests. Sp.

7. So you think turtles are doing the investing on Wall Street? |
|
Whether you are or not, millions of PEOPLE invest on Wall street. Our governmet "of the people" is affected by what happens there.
In addition, it affects just about everything you buy, and it affects the job security and wage level of most people. Not directly, and it is only one factor, but it is important. It also affects the debt level of the nation and the overall health of the economy. Again, it's not the only factor, and it can be misleading--for instance, sometimes the market can go down even as wages go up, and more often vica versa, where the market goes up but wages go down--but it is one of several factors.
If a major earthquake leveled San Francisco, it would not affect my personally, either, but I would not complain that the media saw fit to report it.

I live in New York. I know lots of people who work on Wall Street. Some of them fit the selfish stereotype, others are very concerned with other people and donate to charity and whatnot. They are not clones, they are people just like you and me.

aka total exploitation of workers. All of which can be directly connected to wall street and the ever increasing demand of stockholders for more and more dividends.
Those with a so called "conscience" on wall street are contributing to the problem whether they can admit that or not; no matter how much they donate to charity.

25. A GROWING segment of OUR population that was NOT previously poor........ |
|
has either become or will become poor thanks to wall street, corporate america AND investors that have come to DEMAND UNREALISTIC RETURNS for their investments. The vast middle class of this nation has paid a VERY HIGH PRICE so that rich and filthy rich can become even richer; WHEN IS 'MORE' ENOUGH?? ANSWER: NEVER. When corporations made 'the investors' priority number 1 in THEIR MISSION STATEMENTS, somebody and something had to pay THAT price. Reinvestment in USA manufacturing facilities and the American workers jobs have been sacrificed for the corporations commitment to its investors. THIS is an ugly scenario THAT will ONLY continue to become uglier. Few american workers want 'welfare' in ANY form; THEY do want to have a sense of worth with a DECENT paying job.

think they are the king makers. In reality they are but maybe that's changing too. For an example on how it really works you just have to look at Arnold in California. Raygun was one of their proto-types also.
The more rural states that are often ignored by MSM could wind up being the fixer here

40. Yes, I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments |
|
What distresses me is people who are either non-committal or even opposed to the idea of ensuring the will of the people is heard over the interests of a select few monopolists and industrialists on Wall Street. What bothers me is an economy that largely is operated as an oligarchy dictatorship as opposed to a democratic order of living. The ownership society only sounds good when you live among the Haves instead of the Have-Nots.
