Fact one is bush* has the veto pen fresh, full of ink and at the ready |
|
and the numbers of the Democrats aren't in override territory so we pretty much are stuck with the blivet and his, laws, if you will. If we play our cards right there will be a Democratic Executive who will want the same things and we'll be in a super majority in congress. I say to the new Democratic majority to pick and choose your fights wisely, never taking your eye's off the ball. The giant has awaken and we are mad as hell and they know that, never forget.

1. Don't assume the remaining republicans will rubber stamp for him. |
|
THEY are the ones bandying about the crap about bipartisanship. And, if this election was any indication, a number of republicans are trying to distance themselves from him. A veto override is not impossible.

4. Certainly, and if that's not enough, there are other ways to get them to vote for legislation |
|
Sweeten the pot with a nice little appropriation within the bill that will benefit their district...if they vote against it, it's a campaign ad sound bite.
I agree with you that a veto override can happen. These guys have GOT to bring home some bacon. If they go on being obfuscators and obstructionists, it will be their last term in Congress.

We have the ability to subpeona now. I don't think he's going to get away with the veto threat. He'll play nice if for no other reason than to keep himself and his idiot minions out of BIG trouble.

3. There is one thing to consider.. |
|
The voters who handed the keys the Democrats are going to want to see some results.. and vetos will show them what the obstruction is.

I have to believe that the remaining Republicans in Congress know they squeaked it through this time and even if * doesn't get it about how to be bipartisan, they surely will. Because come 2008, if they have been obstructionist, we will through them all out!

6. good - it will mark a stark contrast |
|
between a rubberstamping repub congress, and one that is doing their jobs
and it's entirely possible, that some repubs will be emboldened by a dem congress and actually vote with dems to over-ride a veto

I mean, if you listened to the media in recent weeks, when we took over, we'd just hand over the keys to the White House to Kofi Annan, then humbly apologize to the world for invading Iraq and then promptly take all our troops out of the country. Then, we'd insert Osama bin Laden in to replace Don Rumsfeld at Sec. of Defense, and then we'd raise the tax rates on Republicans to 90%... it seems everybody forgot about that damned veto!
Damn, there goes my plan to install Harvey Fierstein as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

13. Billionaire tax give-aways expire all on their own |
|
So for starters gridlock means an end to that crap. Then there is the prospect of good legislation being obstructed by senate republican filibustering - ok, they are the ones who said that was a bad thing, now they are hypocrites and obstructionists. Then there is the prospect of **- using his veto over and over and over again - great more fuel for 08!
This is all good. It is going to be Lame Duck Walking and one sorry ride for the formerly invincible arrogant asshats who ran roughshod over us for the last 12 years.
